Yeah thats not a typo:

Think about it,

The 84 M is built aroud the .308 family of cartridges, the 84L is built aroud the .30-06 family.

Why not a smaller, lighter action built around the .223 family of cartridges.

Howa's mini action saves over 6 ounces over their regular short action (4 in the bolt alone)

In Adirondack-ish rifles you could start getting real close to 4 lbs. cartriges could be anything from 17 Remington, .204, .223, 6x45, 6.5 grendel, 6.8 SPC, 300 Blackout, 7.62x39, and I'm not to familiar with it but 450 Bushmaster maybe???

What do you guys think? Plausible? Crazy talk? Do we need to start a letter writing campaign =]

You aren't gonna get that thing much lighter without making it shorter, and shorter would be a bad move.

They save roughly 6 oz going from a 84L to an 84M. Why would shorter be a bad move?

The problem is when they give it a 2.26" mag box.

Haha I could care less for my application. I can't get anyways close to the lands on any of my hunting rifles but they still kill just fine and nice and light to carry.

Exactly. If they left it at 2.5" it would be great....but that's not much smaller than the M.

Why tempt Kimber to go backwards beyond where they have taken the 84M 223 and just ask for an 8 twist?

Go handle and cycle the bolt on a Tikka 223 a few times and after that, you'll love the Kimber 223.

ETA: But at least Tikka knows how to twist them.

I get it. Wanting a longer mag box (and faster twist) is certainly a loonies game (as is speculating an 84s), but once you've had one, it's tough to look at 2.26" schidt and get excited.

If they could sell enough to make them cheap enough, I can see the sense in a Mini 84 with a 2.4-2.5-ish mag box. Lighter and handier, a 6x45 or 6 LBC would be a ripper little hunting rifle with a 19"-ish barrel.

Can't see them doing it though.

Haha oh I will take the faster twist. But the correct action sized for the cartridge would be kinda cool. If they made it exactly 1" shorter action than the 84L and .5" shorter than the 84M the mag box could be around 2.320" and that would be plenty for me.

But if they did one sized for the .221 FB....
