*Official* BobinNH Commemorative Rifle Build - 02/06/17
Good morning Friends,
As many here, I was surprised and deeply saddened to hear of our friend Bob’s passing a few days ago. From the outpouring of sentiment here, it is clear that Bob’s humorous quick wit, sagely advice, and passion for hunting (the only proper way…w/ a Pre’64 70!) touched many more of us than we could have imagined.
A small group of us took the idea of building a BobinNH Commemorative Rifle and ran with it. The idea was to build a rifle that Bob would have spec’d for himself, using top-of-the-line components and then raffle it off to raise funds to bless Bob’s wife and family as well as give them the option to share it with a charity of their choice. “Skane” will be along in the next few days to outline the particulars of the raffle drawing, but today we get the build rolling! Many have shared in other threads a desire to contribute to help with the build - here is your chance.
While some incredibly generous folks have stepped up to donate an action, bottom metal, barrel, and cerakote - we are in need of funds to help with the smithing costs, stock, finishing and a scope to finish off the package.
We have set up a special account to hold the funds and are making calls and contact this morning to get the ball rolling. I will post back here as soon as it appears we have enough to cover the build costs so that folks can use any other funds for raffle tickets. Any additional funds left in the account after the build is complete will be sent directly to Bob’s wife to be distributed at the family's discretion.
Please PM me if you would like to donate to the build and I will reply with details.
A few of Bob’s longtime hunting partners and fellow Model 70 Looneys have helped spec the build to Bob’s preferences. It is going to be one special rifle. While all final details won’t be hammered out for a few days, it will be a functionally beautiful, reliable, lightweight 270 Win on a PreWar Model 70 action, custom bottom metal, flyweight cut-rifled tube in a top-end synthetic stock. Our goal is to have the fit, finish, and function be top-notch in our friend’s honor.
Please stay tuned for more details on both the rifle and raffle and drop me a line to help out for this great cause in memory of a great man.
-Thanks-
