Any experience with the Ruger Guide rifle?

It looks way better in person than in photos on the 'net. Not sure why. Handles VERY nice. I just got one in 375 Ruger, haven't shot it yet though.

There is a You Tube Video on it. Has some interesting features. E

I am wanting to replace a 338 win mag but I don't want a 24" barrel. I saw the guide gun with a 20" barrel and was curious about them. I may just buy a 338 with a 24" barrel and have it cut to 22"

Unless you want the threaded barrel, the muzzle brake, and the sights, that is what I would do also.

I am not interested in the threaded barrel or the muzzle break but the sights would be nice.

The sights are awesome.

I've got the pre-brake, pre-fugly-heavy stock version....AKA the Alaskan.

Every time I look at the stock photo online it turns me off wanting one. The butt end of the stock just looks weird in the stock photos. I'd fancy one in 416 Ruger and leave it with open sights though...

They are good guns but they look like [bleep]. It's tempting to buy one in 338wm, get a new stock and have a gun smith remove the threaded section of the barrel but it's not going to be an 850 dollar gun at that point.

I had the Alaskan for awhile but switched to HH because it was difficult to find the ruger ammo so the gun had to go.

I actually think it's crazy for ruger to only offer their guns in 375 ruger, I'd buy a guide gun or an African in 375hh in a heartbeat.

Have one in 338, really like it, shoots good, I like laminated stocks, plastic not really my thing. They are on the heavy side like many rugers. I usually need a shorter LOP and these are adjustable, another plus for me.

Now available in 450 Bushmaster. I told the CEO that was a stupid design and it looks like crap. He justified it by saying it covers many more shooters with the adjustable lop. Well, then make every version of your guns in LH too, if that is your concern.

Buy a regular rifle, cut the barrel back to what you want for balance, then buy the sights from Ruger or NECG. End up with what you really want.
