Using a 6mm Creed. Only one I have very limited experience with is the 60 grain Sierra HP. I am currently using the 112 grain Barnes match burner in it. I also have loaded the 95 LRX and use the factory 103 ELD-X.
In the 243, I've used 55gr and 70gr Btips, 75gr Vmax, 85gr Sierra SPBT, 80grTTSX and 85gr TSX.

The biggest surprises were using the 75gr Vmax and the 55gr Btip.

The 55gr Btip @4,000fps, gave me more runners and floppers than I cared for. I even lost a coyote hit with one. The last I saw of that coyote, he was running uphill with something flapping out of his side.

The 75gr Vmax went 33-34 coyotes straight without an exit or pelt damage, with ranges from 20yds to about 400yds. They got hit and just collapsed. I have had a few with, shall we say, severe pelt damage.

So, to answer your question, the 75gr Vmax has become my favorite.
I will say up front that rarely use my 6mm (6mm Rem) anymore, as I generally have a .308 or .223 in my hand, but by far my most used bullet has been the Sierra 85 grain HPBT-GK. Works on everything from Yotes to deer to whatever, when run hot out of a 6mm Rem.

I have not seen any for sale for a while though.
between me and my calling buddy we have seen several hundred coyotes killed by 55 grain nosler btips from a 243 or 6-284, its the hammer of thor on coyotes. that chunk of copper in the back of the bullet will power through shoulders or hind quarters.

And that's the performance I was expecting from the 55gr Btips, so I was, and still am, surprised at the results I got with them. I shot probably 35 coyotes with them, got the runners and floppers and never bought another box to reload.

I will add that most of those coyotes I shot with the 55gr Btips, were shot in below zero temps, in our Colorado mountains, but I can't believe low temperatures would affect the bullets on game performance.

Since I really like speed, and the 55gr in a 243 gives me that, I will try them again.
I will say for me the btips are normally one of the least accurate bullets I generally shoot. for some reason I can't get them to shoot in any AR 15 when I try to pump up the speed, and that includes 223 and 6mm ar 15's. nosler typically isn't the most consistent bullets for me. The the 6mm 55's come in 2 flavors the varmageddons and the btips. the btips have the chunk of copper in the back I like. I run the 75 vmaxes in a 243 AI as my rock chuck bullet. They will probably knock the peewaddlin out of a coyote I bet. the ogive distances on those have been kinda all over the place for the last couple boxes of those that I have loaded.

I also am concerned about coyotes dying on the spot, I hate needing finishing shots. its why I gave up on the 223 ar 15's, I currently use a 6mm DTI ar 15, with 55 grain sierra BK's I would use the btips but they give me flyers when I step on the gas. so far the sierras at 3550 have worked pretty well, but the coyote hunting has sucked around us because of the drought since 2018, and I haven't shot enough to have a final verdict. we simply don't have the jack rabbit population or as I like to say winter protein to support very many coyotes once the bugs and mormon crickets die from the cold, in our neck of the woods.

I have been in mourning for years over it.

I have used a bunch of different bullets in the .243 Winchester for coyotes over the years. The cartridge is a hammer on coyotes and honestly, it is hard to pick a bad bullet for killing coyotes. I'm not considering saving fur because if that is your goal the .243 might not be the best at saving hides. The 70 gr. Ballistic Tip, 75 gr. V Max and 87 gr. V Max is coyote poison. With that said, the 85 gr. Sierra HPBT-GK is my all-around general-purpose bullet. I have used that bullet for years on everything from crows, coons, armadillos, skunks, feral cats, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, deer and wild hogs. The Sierra #1530 gets it done.

Used to be one of my favorite bullets in 243,& 6mm. Haven’t seen any of those for sale in years. Killed a lot of deer with them using my Remington Classic 700’s in 243 & 6mm. Antelopes too. No telling how many coyotes.

Mostly use the 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips in those two rifles for coyotes now.
Did shoot one antelope with the 55 gr Btip when we were shooting Pdogs in a big Pdog town in the TX panhandle.
Didn’t exit, but he was DRT.
I have had excellent results with the 70gr Blitz kings in my 6xc at 3350 fps. Even shot one between the eyes at 100 and no exit. Most are dead on the spot and rarely any exit wound with great accuracy.
Just about any bullet out of a 243 will hammer a coyote. Load whatever is accurate and cheap and go get em. 70 gr TNT or any of the others mentioned above will put them in the dirt.

Most of the Coyotes I kill are under 200 yards, any bullet will work 99.9% of the time we don't get prime pelts in S.Texas so pelt damage is not a factor, my .243 likes the 105 Secnar my 6 CM likes the 108 ELD-M both at 2950fps, and i'm set for bigger critters without changing guns or ammo. Rio7

Yep.
I like the 65 grain v-max out of one of my 6br's. Probably running about 3,300 and shoots the wiggle out of 'em.
Take care,
Rick
I've got a 6mm SPC I need to make a fur load for. Sounds like I need to try the 75gr V-Max. Any other lighter bullets that have been good for pelts?
Posted By: JamesJr Re: Favorite 6mm Coyote bullet - 12/03/23
I really like the 58 grain VMax bullet in the 243. But, I've probably killed more with the 85 grain Sierra HPBT, as it's been my go-to 243 bullet. Another bullet that works is the 65 grain Berger. It's listed as a match bullet, but it kills coyotes just fine. It's also accurate in every 243 I've tried it in.

The 80 gr. Sierra SBT and the 85gr. Sierra BTHP

We killed quite a few with the Berger 87 out of 6 Creeds and 6x47 Lapuas.. Dead on impact with any decent hit.
Have had great luck with either the 58gr. VMax or the 55 gr. ballistic Tips both pushed anywhere between 3200 fps and 3700fps. Never made a bad hit so far all hit the ground immediately with just a tail swirl or two.

Over 40 years of control shooting my favorite stopper is my .243 using Federal Premium 55gr nosler ballistic tips. I can’t count how many cases of those I’ve gone thru.
Coming out of my current tweaked up Tikka that bullet is hustling at nearly 4K fps. Not bad for factory ammo and devastating results.
Fur recovery is of no concern to me.

In my slow-twist 244 Rem the most accurate varmint bullet turned out to be the 65 gr VMax. It performed very well on coyotes and ground squirrels.
If I had to pick just 1 it would be the Sierra Varminter 85 grain SP.

Have tried several others but this one was very consistent.
Used to run the Sierra 85gr HPBT-GK in 6x45, but with a BC of .311, I switched back to the AR with 62gr. Speer GDs.

Most of my experience with 6mm cartridges also involved 1-14" twists. In that context, the 70 grain ballistic tip rules the roost. Until you see it, it is hard to imagine how hard it hits when launched at 3800 fps from a 6x.284. Still, in a fast twist, I think I'd give the 80 grain ballistic tip and 87 grain VMAX a try. I'd try the 90 grain ballistic tips or 90 grain ELD-X even though they are seemingly a tougher bullets.
85 gr/ Sierra HPBT is my favorite.

80 grain Barnes out of a half dozen 243’s works on deer and pigs. I suspect they will do well on coyotes too.

My first center fire, a M98, after it was re-barreled from 8x57 was a 6mm Remington. It shot 1/4" groups with IMR4350 and various 75 grain HP bullets, Sierra, SPEER and Remington to start with. Those bullets would work fine. If you're shooting long range, you'll likely want a more stream-lined bullets. My 6mm liked 105 grain SPEER. But that bullet wouldn't expand on pronghorn, so unless they changed the design of that bullet, it will drill about a 1/4" hole through the coyote.

.243 win, of course.
Going to try some Speer 85 btsp. Anyone have any experience with them on coyotes?
While not a favorite... yet, maybe, will be trying some Hornady 103 grain ELD-X in a Tikka Super Varmint 243 Win I recently picked up. Rifle has a 24" 1:8 twist barrel, so going to try higher BC bullets to take advantage of it. And it's coming into my favorite time of year for coyote hunting.

Let me know how they perform Dean, I don't like the 105 Berger on coyotes and am looking for an alternative.

Try the 105 gr. Scenar, I have killed a bunch of Coyotes and Bobcats with them, they normally don't do much pelt damage, 6 CM---243---.243 A.I. just bought another 1000. Rio7

I use the 103 ELDX in one 6 Creedmoor but also use it for culling does when needed so it's a good hybrid for that.
The other flings the 70gr VBT (my night setup).

I have a smallish quantity of 105 Bergers Hybrids if you wanna grab some on your next pass through town.

Lately I've been loving the 75 gr. Vmax in my .243

Full disclosure: I've never shot a coyote with one, so that makes me an innanet ex-spurt on the subject!
Posted By: RIO7 Re: Favorite 6mm Coyote bullet - 01/05/24
The 105 gr A-Max shoots well in my 6mm's but I got hooked on Sceners for a all around bullet for everything i shoot with my 6mm's they kill like lighting. Rio7

75-grain Sierra HP works if you aren't interested in pelts.

I'm a huge fan of Berger 105 Hunting VLD's for coyotes.

There's three different 105 Bergers, which one don't you like?
