Have the days of shooting slings & position shooting been completely replaced with shooting rests, table, big scopes & bi-pods?

Has desire for long range accuracy depleted rifleman�s skills?

Have mechanical set ups interests surpassed honing human rifleman skills?

Does anyone still hunt varmints with little more than his rifle and sling in regards to firearm equipment brought to field?

Many years ago I got a High Wall in .219 I. Zipper that has a very substantial barrel and a good fully bedded forend. I carried that rifle a lot blasting chucks and I used a marksman's sling on it shooting it from prone and the other positions such as sitting and kneeling. It is quite effective.

Nostalgia is a good fit for the subject. There was a time when American Rifleman primarily used a shooting sling and what was available for rest in the field. After all its not how many we bagged that we tend to remember but rather certain shots.

Its a Lyman Super Targetspot 10X.

I shoot with the sling prone, sitting and kneeling with that rifle because I want to get the chuck. I am a practiced position target shooter however there is some pulse with even prone. I would find some rest or get closer if the shot was not doable with the sling.

I shoot mostly porne, sitting or kneeling some time with and sometimes without a sling. I practice on groundhogs to keep sharp for deer, antalope. An outfitter once told me most of his best clients spent a lot of time shooting ground hogs or p dogs during the off season. I took the hint. It does help to keep you sharp and improve your shooting.
