What is your favorite Choke and Buckshot size for hunting coyotes when calling in close cover? For the ones who use a shotguns for calling do you prefer 2&3/4 shells or 3 inch?
When using a shotgun, I have an old 870 Rem, with a 23" barrel that is really handy. I use #4 buckshot and a modified choke tube. I just use 2 3/4" most of the time. Very effective short range coyote medicine.

Have you tried the full choke verse the mod in your shotgun with number 4 buck?
In Oklahoma we can't use anything larger than BB's so I use a Kick's .665 extended tube and 2 3/4" shells. I do want to try a .675 or so tube but I use the shotgun rarely. It's an 18" Barrel.
I don't have experience with coyotes, but lately we've been eradicating some hogs using shotguns. Several have fallen to 3" OO Buck and a Carlson's Turkey Full choke at 40+ yards. Puts them down with authority. I would imagine it would do the trick on coyotes at reasonable ranges

I'm not an expert with shotguns and chokes but one thing i can tell you is in my expierence quality ammo will shoot better than cheap buckshot everytime.
I bought a remington 870 express 3" camo turkey gun and put a thumbhole stock on it.It came w/a full choke - i had read that hevi-shot didn't shoot best in full chokes so i bought a modified choke [hs strut] and when i was in a buying mood i also grabbed an extra full.
The extra full choke shot black box winchester #4 buck unbelievably well -about the size of a beach ball at 45 yds lasered.
And the modified choke shot the #2 hevi-shot well but not in the same league as the extra full #4 buck load.
I would pull the trigger on a coyote at 60yds without a second thought.
Another thing when tuning a shotgun is a clean barrel -when shot over a chronograph the velocity drops off quite a bit after as few as five shots.
I was shooting some jackrabbits with the 870 -just polishing off some old ammo -then shot the winchester #4 buck load and the pattern was noticeably bigger when the barrel was dirty.
A quality choke or two and some quality ammo and you'll find a good shooting load.
3" ammo is what i shoot . -Mike
A pair of Benelli M1S90's, Kick's GT .670" and Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike .665" chokes, Remington Wingmaster HD BB or Federal Premium No. Four Buck and both shells are 3" in length.
I'm not high tec, just a guy that has killed a lot of yotes. I used a Rem 3" 1100 with a full choke with Federal 3" Copper plated BB's or factory 3 " #4 Buck.

We hunted Mexico prior to 1989, killed hell out of all predators, no one would believe the numbers.

Federal makes a box of 25 of their copper plated Buffered BB's, just make it your mission in life to get a case of 10 boxes.
