This rifle, while kind of ugly, has really caught my eye as I've been wanting a .223 bolt gun for a while now. The 223 built action, detachable magazine, and accutrigger really excite me. No local gunshops have one and I don't see any for sale on the web either. Has anybody had any experiences with it? Thanks in advance for any info you have to share.

DP4, I have just recently purchased 4 of those Savage rifles in the model 12. I am not familiar with a model 25 as of yet!

OK, now I remember being shown one of them at my local gunstore 3 weeks ago and it was in the .222 caliber. I got rid of my CZ 527 model in the .222Rem. because the store never got in .222 Rem ammo. It seems as though most gun stores etc just don't stock much of that caliber, same goes for the Hornet cal.

So I opted for the bench type rifle in the Savage, going with the .223 (plenty of ammo around) the .22-250, .204 Ruger and the .243 Win. Will also take along my Ruger 25-06 caliber in a heavy barrel for the P-dog trip this early summer out West. So far all of my model 12's shoot factory ammo at 1-MOA or less.
I have a 25 rifle in the LV model (laminate) in .204 Ruger. I just love it; it is inexpensive yet like most Savages, very accurate. If you can find one, I think you'll like it also.
Thanks for the input guys. I've heard rumors of a bonus at work so maybe I'll have one soon!

kind of interested in this or the synthetic model 25 in 222Rem. Please tell me what is up with that bolt?
I spoke with Savage rep and he said end of March the savage model 25 will be available .I have purchased a savage model 40 in 22 hornet ,heard good things about them .

I never got one. Instead I picked up a 16 Weather Warrior in 223. It shoots great and I'm happy.

Basically it is the Model 93 rimfire re-engineered to handle small centerfire rounds. It was supposed to come in quite a bit cheaper than the model 10 or 12 centerfire rifles. Such has not been the case on the street prices I have observed.

I would like to give one a try in a low pressure centerfire round such as the new 17 Hornet.
It seems like I read somewhere where they intend to chamber it in the 5.45x39mm. I am very interested in giving one of those a run, if they should come to pass. Hard to think of a more useable truck gun for pest control on a farm. Buy up a couple thousand wolf HP's and zero a 3-9x of your choosing.

I heard they considered the 5.7x28mm also, but decided not
to.
A couple buddies got them in .223 as both had heavy barrel Savages in the same caliber and wanted a lighter varmint rifle. One hasn't shot his much as the stock split at teh tang after just a few rounds and he just received the replacement from Savage. (He upgraded to the thumbhokle version for a small extra charge over the warranty.) The other guy has had his on 1 prairie dog trip, and shot the hell out of his.
I don't see it listed on the website, so maybe they changed their mind on the 5.45 as well. I hope not. I remember reading about East German guards keeping an eye on the Berlin wall with scoped bolt guns chambered for the 5.45 cartridge. I think it would be a hoot to play with.
