Once again trying to help the farmer slow his rock chuck infestation.
Set up at 202 yards. Had 3 youngsters playing on a rock. Looked like I could get a triple if my Patience held.
3-4 minutes into this a big MFer storms up the rock, swats the little ones out of his way, and plops down. Hmmm, that was a bit rude. So I pasted him with a 123 A-Max from my 6.5x47L (see picture #1).
Nice air time with a half twist. After the dust settled the 3 little guys come back out, line up for about 1/3 second. I rush the shot and only take the middle one out, but is was in a rather spectacular fashion. ( see picture #2)
Picture #3 was a 124 yard head shot, thats all I could see, with a 77 MK out of my 18" AR in 5.56.
Got 17 total kills in about 2.5 hours. Glock34-1 kill, Browning 22 pistol-2 kills, 6.5x47 Lapua -6 kills, AR-15, in 5.56-8 kills.

Nice. Seventeen rockchucks is a great shoot in this area. Gotta love a little air time, too!

Jim-

Not trying to hone in on your spot, but wanted to inquire if you were +/- 50 miles of Wenatchee?

Would love to find some spots where I could backpack in and shoot a few. But I have never come across anyone who has shot more than 2 or 3 in a sitting. At least not in our state.

I bump into a small handful of them in my travels, but I would shoot the 2 and there would never be any seed to replace them. And I don't think we can shoot them on the Green side of the mountains???

JesseJaymes: MANY decades ago we used to "bribe" our way onto the Colville Indian Reservation to Hunt Rock Chucks!
Many of the folks that ranched there were white folks and they appreciated the "efforts" we made in thinning the Rock Chucks.
The tricky part was dealing with the Colville Tribal Police and the various "chiefs" that woke up late in the day!
Anyway I had many 100 Chuck days on the Colville before "they" totally shut it down to "non-resident" Hunters about 20 years ago.
I have long since lost track of the current "policy" on Varmint Hunting on the Colville but I do know it was some of the best Rock Chuck Hunting I have ever had!
Might be worth looking into if you haven't already.
Have a good and safe season.

Jim the Plumber: Yes indeed that is a BIG and well furred Chuck there by your Browning pistol!
You should have him mounted!
Good job sneaking up on that adult Chuck with the short range arm!
Good for you.
