anyone done much yote hunting while using the 6.8SPC?

looking for comparisons on terminal performance of the lightweight 6-8 bullets as compared to lightweights from the .243, from anyone that may have used both. i usually shoot 68/75grains in the .243.

noticed in terms of pure KE, ballistic tables say not a helluva lot of difference, but was unsure about the expansion characteristics of the light 6.8's.

i ended up with a pair of light bolt guns in both .243 and 6.8.... been toying with using the .243 as a donor to build a light .250AI that will see mostly deer use.

any success...or failure...reports from 6.8 users?

While there's way more bullet than any coyote needs, the 243 is gonna run away from the 6.8SPC. My 243AI pushes the 75gr V-max at 3560something so let's knock off 150fps and say 3400fps, the 6.8 should push a like bullet at, let's generously say 3200fps given a 22" barrel as well.

That gives 200fps and better B.C. to the 6MM

I have no dealings with the 6.8 but the same necked down to 6mm as the 6WOA pushes the 75 V-max at 3100fps in a 22" barrel.

Killed a coyote at 360 yards with my 16" Noveske Recon 6.8spc shooting my hand loads with 100gr Nosler Accubond bullet. Dropped it in it's tracks, much like my .243 would have done.

Love the 6.8 because I can shoot a 16" barrel and still get really good ballistics.

I'd have to go with the .243; flatter shooting and greater range. I've always wondered why semi autos in this caliber never sold well and did not have much of a production life. Should have got an M1A in this caliber when the Reese boys still owned Springfield Armory.

The coyote was called in with the FoxPro Fury and the Pup in Distress and taken with the Speer 90 gr TNT in my 6.8 SPC.

i had loaded up a couple of test loads with the same bullet to try, both reloder-10 and H322 shot pretty well.

have one of the 6.8 ltwts that remmy made (same as LVSF, but matte blue) stuck a 4-12x up top.

so far, only used it with 110/115's for deer, will see if any yotes volunteer to become bullet expansion test subjects.

volunteer #1 for bullet expansion test. he passed the test with flying colors...mainly red.
