I was just itting up against a tree trying to pop a doe this morning and had this ole bitch come racing through the woods. First round went far back and slowed her roll. Then as I jacked another round into the BLR she looked right at me and caught #2 above the eyebrow.
Pre81 BLR in 308WIN 165 hornady SP at 60 yards.
One of the local joints is having a contest and right now I am 21 pounds ahead of the former leader (34 pounds) at 55 pounds. DNR came when word got out and aged her at 5 years old. Both agents said they havent seen a yote this big.
Sorry about the crappy cell pic.

Never hunted southern Coyotes, but I'd bet they don't breed in the fall and drop pups in the middle of the winter.

55#'s is a big Coyote anywhere though.
Good job.
Hope you win the contest.
What's the prise?

Thanks but no thanks Bob.
I'm more of a Cat hunter than Coyote hunter these days.
I'm a long ways away (on the Clearwater between Lewiston and Orifino) and don't really care for contests anyway. They tend to bring out the worst in people IMO. Least they did back when I hunted the Tavern ran contests down in Elko/Ely. Everybody was cheating, including us. LOL

Me and my Cur Dog'll be happy to go chasing Cats with ya next month though, providing we get some snow this year.
Didn't win any contests, but I did manage to get this one published in FF&G last month.
I was famous for fifteen minutes. LOL

That sure is a big purrty cat, with huge paws too. That coyote would be big for a male here.

Yep,,, 29.8 lbs per the scale at my vets office. Stretched 42"

My biggest ever was this 36 pounder. Stretched 43"
This pic doesn't do him justice though because he was pretty wet.

Here's a pic on the way to the fur buyers. He really was a hog.

My buyer was pretty impressed when I showed up with a 43 incher one year, and followed it up with a 42 incher the next. For those that don't know, 36" is XL. The price goes up pretty fast aftert that depending on the belly of course.
Better lucky than good eah?

Dang, that is a nice coyote. Nice kitties FG! This is the only kitty I have killed thus far, I do want to get a bobcat someday though.

This one weighed 33lbs, trapped in a wolverine set. Was the first one in 10 years caught in that area.

FieldGrade,
We have several contests each year. So far no problems with cheating. We have a vet there that is really good, he can tell within the hour when they were killed, if they've been frozen, etc. On the bigger contests we have a lie detector available, haven't needed it so far. We have a lot of fun with these contests.
Those are nice cats, I've never killed a cat, hope to some day.
I lived on the grade between Greer and Weippe for about six years so I know your area well. You wouldn't be around Peck would you? I knew some people there. Used to stop in the Canyon Inn, when Mike owned it, for one of his sourdough hotcakes. Anyway I saw quite a few bobcats when I was hunting but never managed to get one. Saw quite a bit of lion sign too but never have seen one in the wild. Good luck with your cat hunting, looks like lots of fun.

what's with the coyotes neck looking to be twice as long as normal?
Posted By: bea175 Re: Killed a werewolf this AM - 11/29/12
Nice coyote being raiding some house dog food bowl and stealing his or her Alpo
Hank,,,, that Lynx is very cool! I'd love to get one.
We have a few up in the high country, but I nor anyone I know's actually seen one. I've heard stories, but I suspect most Lynx sightings are actually Bobcat. Kinda like the Wuff/coyote thing if ya know what I mean.

BRoper,,,, I'm just down river from the Lenore post office on the south side of the river so I know the Canyon Inn well although I haven't been in there for a few years. The new owners have really cleaned up the outside though so I'm assuming they're doing well. Hope so anyway.
We never froze Coyotes, but those low-down Ely Cat-Hunters were famous for it. Naturally us Elko boys (being convinced that two wrongs did indeed make a right) countered by having friends hunt and add their take to ours.
Like I said, it's not for me these days, but I sure don't pass judgement on those that care to hunt contests.

Good hunting, and stop in for a cold one if you're ever in my neighborhood.

FieldGrade,
I haven't been to the Canyon Inn since the new owners got it. I came to Idaho from Nevada too but, Vegas, ugh! I used to hunt the Ely area a lot, mostly Cleve Creek. Used to be some big bucks there. I've been to Elko several times but never hunted there. I like the Clearwater country but haven't been there in quite a while. If I get through there I'll look you up. Good look with your hunting.

But hey, I'd like to meet his tailor!
That is one big yote. Wonder what a days meal consisted of?

Nice coyote. There's a pair that runs around my neighborhood (in the city) and they are both bigger than my 50 lbs mutt. They are also bigger than the other singles that I see from time to time. My biggest problem is that they got too good at eating the outside cats but not the rodents.
Posted By: kenjs1 Re: Killed a werewolf this AM - 12/14/12
nice yote....and its hair was perfect!
Whoa! 55# female?!

That's a big one!
