Went out this morning, trying to start the new year right. Beautiful day six inches of snow, two foot + drifts, got to about 15 degrees.
Heard them talking before the sun was up, so we tried to slip in and call. Talked with them all day walking thru six stands in the hills, but couldn't get any to come in. Spotted two over a mile away, they went on their way ignoring us. Did I mention this went on all day. Finally the wind picked up enough we called it. One fox from the two track.
Frustrating.. Still had a great time with my boy.

They are pretty tough to call this time of year.. Especially if you have had some contests in your area.. With antelope, then deer season then a couple contests, coyotes are pretty sly in our area.. I really wish they would stop the contests.. But guys have fun doing that.. Best of luck for the rest of the winter..

Thanks; I have permission to go out at night on one ranch. Might change a few things. That owner said she is having trouble with them just walking her dogs. Other than lighting, is there any advice for night calling?

Never hunted much for coyotes at night.. I can ask a couple pals who have done that quite often..
