Looking for a gunsmith recommendation to rebore a .50 TC hawken percussion to .54 1:66.
Thanks

Old timer, no email. Just call and maybe he will answer when he is on a break. He works, not a phone jockey, so that is what you want. 140 bucks I think.
tom, it may be easier to buy a 54 cal barrel on ebay.
Possibly, but I did a rust blue on this one, want to keep it.
I left a message with Robert few weeks ago, haven’t heard back, I’ll try again.
Any other suggestions in case I can’t reach him?

you won't find a replacement barrel for that! thanks for the link, am going to call him myself
Bobby Hoyts email as of a couple of years ago.
[email protected]He responded to my email a LONG time after I sent it. I called and got him on the phone and bought a couple of barrels from him.
Like was said, he runs machines in his shop and isn't listening for a phone to ring. Try calling at some different times.
Great barrel maker.
i have used Bobby Hoyt to rebore 2 of my rifles and he did a great job. he is sometimes hard to get ahold of though.
Got in touch with Bobby and the barrel is in the mail. Thanks all for the help.
You will be pleased.
He takes a while.
He did a flintlock for me, from rusty, crappy, 50 to round ball 54.
He also did barrel liners in a Springfield 1871, which I foolishly sold. And a Springfield 1879 TD carbine that I still have.
Tag.
Thinking about a faster twist .50 barrel to accompany my .54 1:66.
1" barrels aren't as common so I may be forced to grab whatever I can find in 1" and have it rifled the way I want.
Just got my barrel back in the mail. Pretty darn quick turn-around, didn’t plan on having it back for this years muzzleloader season. Now it just needs to dry out around here so I can work up a load and zero it.
Just a follow up if anyone is on the fence for a rebore via Mr. Hoyt. Barrel loads smooth, least fouling MZ I’ve seen, cleans up nice. I threw together 90 Gr of Black MZ, a Speer .530 RB with some old patches I had and got 2” groups at 50 yds. Good enough for the woods hunting I do, ready to hunt. Prior to rebore, it was hard to hit an 8x11 piece of paper at 20 yds.
Must have been a really bad barrel if you cant it that at 20 yds. I am going to get my 50 cal. 1/48" twist Hawken barrel turned into a 54 cal. 1/66".

I called Bobby yesterday and chatted for a sec.
Originally asked about a .50 to .54 rebore but I may call him back and ask about a reline. Just stay with the .50 but have it twisted to 1:32.
