Savage ML2 with a Barnes 285 sabot dropped a large doe at 230 yards and she couldn't even make it to her side. collapsed straight down on her four legs like she was kneeling over a corn row. Lung shot behind the sholder and didn't even make a rustle in the snow. That's knocking them off there feet. big for a doe she had to be 3 to 5 years old . don't have a scale but this deer is loaded with corn fat and she as close to 150 as we get around here. was a real plus for this gun and bullet. smokeless load and scope but they are allowed here.
Wow!!! 230 yards is a LOOONNG shot. What did you steady the rifle on?

Congratulations

we have hunting shacks complete with heaters and windows and pillows. Even got a roll around chair to really get into positon. when the weather is 20 degrees and the wind is blowing it's the place I find I can still put in 3 or 4 hours watching for game in comfort. Just don't forget coffee and sandwhich.
I love my Savage I have a custom Pac Nor 45 cal Barrel I dropped one at 260 2 weeks ago and 2 does with head shots they dropped like yours did. Good shooting.
Nice shootin'.....

Have killed a pile of venison between 200 and 250 with my old 77/50 inline, but 250 is my cut off range.

New inline this year, KP1, 110 grains of FFg and a 240 XTP.

189 yards.......

My kid got this one at 150 this year, with my old rifle, and the same load....

A "Hunting Shack" you say...more like a Hotel room. Do you have room service as well?

Doc
Wildswalker,

What do you do with all that venison? I know you and your boys and daughter kill a bunch of deer..

Doc
My brother got the bright idea to build a shooting stand on top of a wagon frame he had handy. we insulated it and have windows on three sides with a door on the end. little propane heater makes it comfortable in the windest and cooldest weather we have to hunt deer. I get kidded that when i want to still hunt i just have someone drive me around with a tractor. guntender

We eat it of course....

Added two boars to the pile this season, and have a tame hog ready for butchering here in a couple of weeks.

Prolly kill a couple more deer as well before season goes out on the 2nd, and have a neighbor getting ready to kill some lambs too.

We don't buy much meat from the store.......
The furthest shot for me was with my Encore, 250gr T/C Shock-Wave sabot, 150grs-3 pellets out to 224 yards. Took that doe right in the neck. DRT ! There was still 5 deer standing there while mine dropped. I used my range finder from the ridge I stood on for the shot to the hill where she lay. I don't think the deer had any clue where the shot came from or where I was. Not 15 minutes earlier that my step-son had shot a buck from 140 yards. I heard him shoot and was headed towards him when I saw the deer on the other ridge. What a double for the morning.
