444 grain flat point .54 cal copper jacketed Powerbelt. First I've ever heard of it:

Did a lot of shooting this weekend and my Deerstalker wasn't liking the solid lead bullets half as much as it did the 348 grain Powerbelt. Then I decided to see if there was anything heavier and sure enough, there's a pretty decent selection, but retailers don't carry it.

Anyone try this yet?

Used to use it, and killed an elk with it with my 54 caliber T/C renegade.

When I killed my bull, the bullet slipped between two ribs, went through the middle of the heart, and slipped through two ribs on the other side. 0.5 inch hold going in and 0.5 inch hole going out. No expansion. Killed him deader than a mackrel, but wondered what would have happened if it had only gone through lung.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'll have to order straight from them. Gonna see if I can get a dealer discount with my FFL.

I had the same issue with my Deerstalker in 54 cal. I wasn't impressed enough with Powerbelt performance on deer to trust them for elk. Maybe this will help; I did a review of No Excuse conicals here....

Which Deerstalker do you have? Is it the stainless, or the blued version. I have the .54 in stainless, and it's supposed to have shallower grooves than the "regular" Deerstalker, and because of that they say it should shoot conicals and saboted bullets better. So how were your groups with the 348 grain Powerbelts?

Around 3-3.5 inches at 100 yards, which is pretty good for me. It's the blued version.

I'd be happy with that, myself. Actually I'm ok with a 5 to 6 inch group at 100 yards, as that is my limit anyway, with open sights. I might have to try some of those Powerbelts. My state just changed the rules so that jacketed bullets are allowed. Before we could only use all-lead bullets. So there are a few bullets on my list to try now. Another one is the Barnes Expander in a 325 grain weight.
