I had an itch to try stretching my Bone Collector out with the BH209 I just started using. I've had this gun for two months so really just getting acquainted with it as far as it's capabilities.
It is muddy in the field I use for a range and the wind was blowing pretty good. 10 mph with gusts over 20 from 4-5 O'clock.
All shots were 80 grs.weighed charges behind Barnes 290 gr. TMZ's, Harvester yellow ribbed sabot. Ramrod in the gun in case that matters.
Took a guess and dialed in 11 MOA of elevation and let 5 go.

All the shots felt good but there were only four holes on paper. I am guessing the first shot out of the clean and unfouled barrel dropped short but can't really say without having of seen the hits in order.

Dialed in another MOA and tried another 5.

I knew I pulled one shot bad to the left and that one is just off the picture. I had a rough time finding enough tubes for the weighed charges and used one small plastic bottle that proved to be a bitch to empty. Split a bit. I'm thinking that is likely the low shot in this group.
I need to keep working on things but over all feel there is promise.

I like the resettable turret on this Nikon In Line 3-9.

I think it is a 2" circle. I've a card full of two different size circles When I start getting 5 shots in the the 5 shot groups I'll be styling,LOL.

Even at 2" thats still dang good front-stuffer shootin'

EWC post up your range targets. He's punching at 300.

Oh, I am sure he is. Rome weren't built in a day though. These are just the first ten shots I took at 300.
Took a look at the weather and see the wind is actually 15 mph gusting to 30 .

Haven't tried 200 with the BH209 but did well at 200 with real BP and some Triple 7 I had left over previous to getting this BH209.

That is some fine shooting with most rifles, let alone a muzzleloader. Good job!

Pretty weak charge for 300 yds. Have you figured out the FPE at that range?
Posted By: FVA Re: Gave 300 yards a try. - 02/05/12
That was 80 grs. weighed. Equates to about 113 grs. by volume.
Muzzle velocity a solid 1900 fps.
At 300 yards MV should be 1160 fps and 866 ft.lbs.

Missed the weighed part. Ok for deer.

How much windage did you use?

The weight by volume thing has always been puzzling. It's like oranges by apples.

7 MOA
The wind is the trick.
Took three shots today at 300 with the 120 grs. volume and Hornady 350 gr. FPB's. Gusty wind.
Dialed in 12 MOA.
1 shot went through the bulls eye, anther 6" left, another a foot right . The vertical spread was less than 2".
This bullet should have close to 1100 FPE.
Right now I am just shooting seeing what is what.
Going to have to settle on a bullet and stick with it.

Not bad shooting I must say.
