Where can I get 25 to 50 of them??

I can seem to only find lab supply companies that want to sell me a 1000 at a time.

I would really like to be able to have some screw-cap, free standing, plastic ones. Be great if they would slide down into a 25count 'shotshell' case and take em to the range for my Savage 10ML II.

Anyone??

Thanks
Get ya some old film canisters, they will fit a synthetic shell belt and are waterproof.

Gunner
real men shoot black powder and use a hollowed out antler tip for a powder measure. wink
Maybe these or [color:#3333FF]these...

Snoop around, bunch of different sizes, shapes and materials...

Gunner, I've tried several ideas in place of the vials

I went last year to walmart to the camping section...

bought those "waterproof matches" in the little orange cylinder- it has an o-ring

I just tossed the matches in the trash and used those tubes, they were bright orange to boot

they are meh....'ok' for hunting

but I'm looking for a big set for some extensive range testing. It's a bitch toting your scale to the range. laugh

your better quality cigar shops sell plastic slip top cigar tubes for under $2 each, I bought a couple dozen, they easily hold my standard 58 caliber loads of a well greased maxi ball a cotton cosmetic ball as a separator, in the tube and patch and a charge of propellant, you can place a second cotton ball under the cap with a couple percussion caps.
carry the tubes in a belt loop or pocket and they are highly water resistant
Extreme care must be adhered to if ML powder, ( might be only BP) is placed in plastic tubes other than those designed for such. One of the cardinal rules when ML fad came about in the 70's was not to put loads in plastic tubes. Static electrical sparks could ignite the powder, and several guys had the tubes go off in thier pockets.

Quit being cheap,by the Quickload devices sold for that purpose.

Here is the Thread title:
"vials for pre-measured smokeless powder "
The 5ml vials from http://www.royalcs.com/vials/ is what I use. They fit perfectly in the 25 round 12 gauge 3" shotshell carriers. After using each vial you can flip them over with the lid on to know which ones are empty.
continued thanks

These are the same as the royalcs's and cheaper
I bought mine from Luke:
http://www.smokelessmz.com/vials.html

When you get the tubes, wipe the inside with a piece of fabric softener, it will eliminate the static elec. and the powder won't cling to the plastic. The ones from Lanes powder tubes are excellent. Also, at WallyWorld, you can get ice cube trays that make round cylindrical ice cubes that are perfect for the vials. Holds about 30 of those rascals.

I wonder about those reports concerning static electricity. Repeated experiments using static sparklers have not shown that BP can be ignited by static sparks.....there is just not enough heat.
See this link as an example - one of a few:

Good point, Pete.

Another rather ironic observation,.....BP is PACKAGED, SHIPPED, and SOLD in Plastic containers.

so,.......what's up with that ?

GTC
Those plastic containers are treated.
Granted, they would have to be.

That STILL leaves the numerous (and VERY comprehensive) tests that have been run and published for many years, where folks TRY to get static (and other forms) of spark to launch some BP, and can't.

Sure leaves one a bit perplexed, don't it ?

GTC
Most of my friends and Ive used those plastic cigar tubes for carrying individually loads for our muzzle loaders for DECADES and no one I know has had problems, I think a good deal of the scare tactics , where people talk about static electricity might ignite powder, if you use plastic, were originally just related to increasing sales to a specific vendors products, but eventually got repeated enough over the years so they were taken as fact with zero proof and thought to be related to anything similar.
besides I don,t see how anyone can build up much static electricity ,90% of the time were walking in damp ground or grass , and last time I looked I was not shuffling my feet across a nylon carpet in a dry cold area so I could sneak up on a friend and zap him just before I reload my rifle, or wearing much synthetic clothing while hunting with a front loader. Id be more likely to look like this, (my coats made from a couple old olive military blankets and I wear dark green dye levis and leather boots while hunting with a front loader

obviously if the idea keeps you up nights use a brass powder horn, with a built in measure

smokeless powder for my Savage 10ml is "measured" by weight

not volume

I don't lose any sleep over it,but heck 6 quick loaders cost less than $10 here. You get a device to carry powder, bullet and primer all in one. Plus piece of mind that one in a thousand chances it might go boom.

Can't understand it as the same guys pay $1 a bullet but want a 25 cent tube to carry powder in.

Perpexling all right.
I wouldn't have any problems with a quikloader type device for taking hunting.

the advice I sought was for 25-50 vials to tote to the range for a series of many tests, and if possible something that would handily fit organizable into a convenient cased trayed box.

I have found my answer

Now, if the 1 or 2 of you guys want to turn this into an episode of Myth Busters-
have at it

lol
theres a guy on here in the classifieds that sells them

These are great. I bought some from this person a couple years ago an love them. I don't use them for hunting but they aregreat for taking to the range.
Buy a 5' length of 3/4" pvc plumbing pipe, and as many 3/4" caps X2 as you need. Cheapest solution I have found. I'm new to the Savage MLII too, and I think I'll just take my powder scale to the range from now on.

I have been taking my scale
to range. However, the always seems to be some pizza-zit-faced jagg off with an AR-15 burning through 200 rounds right beside me in the next bay. Slinging his [bleep] steel cased molten hot hulls all over my set up. Plus there always has to
be an EMO bff with a trench coat and pistol grip shotgun. Who da hell takes a shotgun with game load to a 100 yard range. lol idjits

On the other bay (one long continuous bench) was some
guy tryin to teach his milf mother-in-law how to shoot another AR.

Again, other times at the range-
there have been instances where people brought their [bleep] hyperactive kids who kept jumping up onto the bench like a bunch of [bleep].

I gave up on the scale at the range

I like the pvc pipe idea, wish I would've thought of
that.

I very committed to the sampling vials at the present.

thanks
If ya need some, I've got them here:

Lane's Tubes

Merry Christmas Everyone laugh
Lanes tubes are great!
I use, of all things, BH209 tubes for pre-weighed charges of BH209 at the range and in the field. Should work for smokeless too. I also use them to carry a couple of sabotted bullets, padded with a ball of poly fluff, cotton, or patches.

At the loading bench, I put them in a .45/70 loading block. Only snag is finding a funnel that fits.
I use Lanes tubes
At you local hardware store.....PVC pipe! Cut to whatever length you need and cap!!
Another vote for Lanes tubes. Less than $13 for 25 tubes. I buy for myself and friends. They come with different colored lids so that I can tell which loads are BH 209 and which are 777.

The CVA funnel spout fits perfectly into Lanes' tubes.
