Today was cold, but no wind, so I decided to head for the range with my TC Omega, my new Thor 250 gr. 50 cal. bullets, and a can of Blackhorn 209 powder and Winchester 209 primers.

I ordered these bullets last week, after a conversation or two with the owner, who sent me a sample of 4 different bullet diameters to try in my barrel. Turns out that the .501" diameter is perfect for my smokepole.

With the Nikon Omega BDC 300 scope mounted up, it took all of three shots to zero at 100 yards, then on to 200 for three shots, then out to 300. The accuracy and ease of loading with this combo is almost unbelievable! No crud ring, and the 9th shot loaded as easily as the first.

After many years of shooting black powder, from flintlocks and real black powder thru Pyrodex, then Triple 7, this combo has to be the ultimate.

I think the Thor bullet concept, with Barnes bullet and sizing the bullet to the bore, is a real winner. I rather doubt I will be trying any new bullet or powder combos anytime soon. Can't wait to try it out on a big Nebraska whitetail next fall.
Good deal and congrats on finding a good load combo.

A couple of questions ...

How good was the accuracy and which Winchester 209 primer were you using?
I didn't fire a lot of rounds, but #2 and 3 at 100 yards were touching. After a scope adj. at 200 yards, #2 and 3 were touching. 3 shots at 300 were 4" apart. Haven't chronoed this load yet (84 gr. by weight, 120 gr. by vol), but I expect around 2000 fps mv. Primer is a standard 209 shotgun.
superb accuracy!

You'll be well over 2000 fps. I get 1,970 FPS with 110gr BH209 and a 250gr thor.
Interesting. How would you say terminal performance compares to a barnes bullet of the same weight. Although I use barnes exclusively, I'll have to move up to a full dia. bullet when I draw my CO muzzy tag.
The Thor is a barnes bullet. They make them special for Thor bullets. Only difference, the thor is full bore diameter.
Did not know that, thank you.

Ballistic comparion Thor/TEZ 300 gr??
my triumph would not shoot the thor bullets at all. they either way to tight or way to loose in the bore. .500 would fall out and .501 had to be beat in the barrel.i have a buddy that has a cva that shoots them great.
