Which do you guys think is the best Caps, CCI #11 Magnum or the RWS #11?

I've always used the CCI # 11 mags and never had a problem with them at all.

Never saw a reason to try the RWS versions.

RWS by far !!! They will make the Pyrodex go boom every time.
The CCI's work good with Black powder. How ever if its damp or raining the RWS is you best bet then.

I've been using CCI's as long as I can remember with real black powder without any issues. When hunting in wet or damp conditions, I sometimes seal the cap on the nipple with a little candle wax. Maybe a little overkill, but so far, never a misfire.

I have always used CCI 11, plain and magnum with no issues. I did run a couple tins of Win 11 Mags when CCI's were impossible to find. All I shoot is regular BP, so they have worked fine for me.

For damp weather, I think it is CVA, makes little rubber rings that slip over the cap and hold it on the nipple and seal it as well.

For me, it's a toss-up between the RWS and the CCI Magnum caps.
I haven't found accuracy or ignition difference between them.

The regular CCI #11 caps are less powerful than either of them.

I've used cci #11 exclusively with pyrodex in my knight lk-93 and it's never failed to go boom regardless of the conditions. I just use a small piece of Tygon tubing
for a seal when it's raining.

If you keep your gun clean they both work fine, but the RWS are supposedly hotter

I have both the RWS and CCI Magnums. I will probably go the RWS in my White G Series Whitetail 50 cal. I had it sighted with 80 gr of PYRODEX-P and the Shooting Star 435 gr Sabot but switched to 80 GR 777 3F and it shot into the same place with no need to move the sights. The White Muzzle Loaders never cease to amaze me how well they shoot.

We get close to 70 inches of rain a year where i hunt. For me #11's have been much more reliable than RWS with pyrodex and 777.

Thinking about a switch to musket caps next weekend. Mostly because they are easier to remove. Suppose the extra heat wont hurt anything.

with the cap on the nipple of the White it is totally water proof at the breech

Love your gun and load Bea! I'm an unabashed White fan & those Shooting Stars are deadly in .45 also. I took my buck last year with one over 70 gr Black Mag 3. One thing I noticed was some of my White nipples were a little oversize and the CCI caps wouldn't seat all the way down against the priming compound. I polish them down to get the fit I want, although I went a little overboard with one and have to use Remington #10s on that one! No problem, those work well too. Matter of fact, I "tested" CCI Mags, RWS and Remington #10s side by side and the Remingtons sounded the loudest when fired though an empty barrel.

Its been my experience that even fully covered the RWS can still absorb more mositure than the CCI magnums. I've learned to just throw away an unfired cap at the end of a long wet day. The CCI's have been more reliable for me over the last 20 seasons. But that's just my experience.

I let the hammer or bolt, whatever you want to call it down on the live cap and use my thumb to push the bolt against the cap to make sure it is all the way flush with the nipple . I always toss the cap that is on the nipple at the end of the days hunt. I have four Muzzle Loaders at the moment , Lymans LH Great Plains 54 cal RB, TC SS Omega 50 cal , SS Encore 50 cal, White G-Series Whitetail 50 cal

Did you have a smith drill and tap that? Is that the Lyman front target sight?

It is the factory front sight on the rifle and the Lyman is great on adjustments. they don't make a better receiver sight than the Lyman. The White is factory drilled and tapped for the Lyman sight. I purchased this rifle new many years back. I had to call a number of sporting goods stores at the time until i found one it stock and then drove asap to the store and purchased it.

I've always used cci #11 mag. primers-never felt the need to try anything else. They work, ignite the powder and gun goes boom. If I ever once had a misfire I don't remember it.

I use Rem #10's. The CCI #11 mags often take a second strike to set off on my Ruger Old Army, and the Rem #11's need to be pinched. The replacement nipples I bought for my pistol state they are designed for standard CCI #11's, but I can't seem to ever find them.

My Lyman's Deerstalker eats everything I put on it.

Was in Bass Pro in San Antonio 10 days ago and they had about a dozen CCI #11 magnum caps on the shelf. I took to tins because I was low. When I came back by in less than an hour, they were all gone. Guess I hit is just right!
