0.460 groove 48 twist. (bore is in the 0.448-0.450 range)

What's it "probably" going to shoot best?

PRB at mild to moderate velocity?

Maxi-ball?

I searched high and low for the actual diameter of a 45 cal maxi ball to no avail.

Those are pretty shallow grooves for a PRB, ....thin patches the order of the day, and moderate velocities for sure.

I have an old TC New Englander 1 : 48 with shallow rifling. Uglier than a wart but it shoots the Maxi-Hunters and Maxi Balls very, very well with black or BP substitutes. Never had much luck with PRB, but the only patches I tried were denim.

TC 45 Maxi-Balls are 0.447 in diameter.
I do not have experience with a .45, but my .50 1:48 really does well with a sabot 240/250 over 100gr. 777. I would think the .45/ .400 xtp in 200gr, over 75 - 80 gr would work well, considering the results I had in .50.
