i purchased a cva wolf for my youngest son who decided late to hunt inline this weekend. mounted and bore sighted a scope then headed out to the range today, problem is the the gun only fires every couple times. tried different powder and primers with same outcome.. trigger spring seems weak. anyone advice quickly???? Thanks, Paul

209 primers or musket cap? Also, what powder and primers are you using?

I'd remove the barrel and check the firing pin bushing. The bushing should be flush with the frame. If its sunk in to much, it will cause the firing spring to not compress and come outward enough.

209 primers, and i started with blackhorn 209 then tried triple 7

Thanks for the advice bigblock455, i did that, along with modifying a pen spring and using it in place of the factory spring. so far, it has worked on the primers.

they make a blackhorn/loose powder specific breach plug.
It will take care of your misfires I bet.

Thanks Dude! Yes, i bought one, but i cannot even get primers to fire each time. then i put them in my T/C and the same primers fire.

Clean it. The wolf firing pin gets sticky in a hurry.
There is a slot for a screw driver under the hammer, remove carefully so as not to lose the spring.

What tracks said.

I have found wolf will make it longer between firing pin cleanings if I don't lube anything after cleaning

You can eliminate the blowback from the primer/load by either extending the firing pin retainer screw to a flush fit with the primer or by putting a very small o-ring into the bottom of the breech plug. I am currently fixing a friend's CVA Optima (first gen) that had a stuck firing pin. It sticks out enough to create a slam fire when closed.

My advice would be to buy something other than CVA.....

dont worry about 2muchgun, hes a bit of a feminine cleaning product that comes in a box laugh

How much did CVA pay you for that comment?

Lmao. You have zero credibility here, but the only one here who doesn't know it is you. Keep pushing junk, maybe one day Rick will ban you like the other sites have.....
Posted By: bigblock455 Re: cva wolf - 10/15/16
well if you are still here, I'd say I am safe laugh

And my only CVA I have is an old Hawken, so I doubt they'd pay me to support a rifle they no longer make blush

Theres also a shim kit cva sells to correct any firing pin bushing that is installed to deep. I use them for head space adjustment to remove all blow by.

An even easier way and one that lasts 40+ shots or so before needed replaced is this simple o ring installed into the primer pocket.

I use that o-ring with all my inlines.

Fix your firing pin issue and as always, I recommend hot primers like CCI-Mag and Federal 209A.

When used according to manual specs, there's nothing wrong with owning a CVA Wolf.

Thanks everyone for all the input. Paul

So who owns all the CVAs in all your videos and pictures then? Or the one in your cute little World Hunt Club "pro staff" photo? Laffin'. Pro Staff? Really? The WHC is owned by CVA, is it not? As CVA and it's brands are the only sponsors.....Lol.

Cmon Johnathan, it is ok, we already know. I would say go shamelessly plug your garbage Spanish made crap somewhere else, but you seem to be well known just about every where now. And banned by some who finally had enough of you.

Hard to hide from the truth, isn't it?

You are being a bit of an ass.

Johnathan has more cred in the blackpowder world than most folks on this board. Including and especially you.

CVA now makes a fine rifle. Buddy at work has had a Wolf for 5-years. Shoots sub 1" groups and has killed 4 deer that I know of. Spanish made crap?

Yeah okay.

If you call being paid to plug inferior products "credibility" laugh

He has been kicked off forums for doing it.

And I have been shooting since before he was born.

CVA a fine rifle? Really? LMAO.

GFY

Sorry but you are falsely accusing me of being paid which isn't the truth buddy.

I've deleted my self from many forums over the past 2 years due to forums drying up. Traditional forums mostly due to their attitudes and lack of respect for each other.

You and I have already gone through this multiple times, multiple forums, so my advice to you is to find a side hobby that makes you happy and maybe you'll feel better about yourself.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: cva wolf - 10/16/16
So you are not WHC pro staff? WHC that is owned by CVA?

You said yourself you only own one CVA. Why so many pictures of you holding them then? And hunting with them?

Why you persist in trying to hide from the truth is hilarious. Every time a new CVA or Traditions, Bergara, Powerbelt, whatever comes up, there you are shamelessly plugging it. Just like the other plug thread you have going now.

Funny for one who is soooo into muzzleloaders and soooo interested in them, I never see you with any good reviews on or hunting with a Knight, T/C, White, A&H, Remington, etc. Why is that?

Don't bother, we all know the answer. At least those of us with a clue. It seems some are still dumb enough to fall for your BS........
Posted By: bigblock455 Re: cva wolf - 10/16/16
WHC is not owned by cva, they are sponsored by cva, or at least they were the last time i heard. WHC taught as well as, designed the new cva website.

I've bought, sold, traded tons of muzzleloaders, a ton of cvas since they shoot conicals so well.

I won't touch a knight due to their poor customer service, bolt issues and the fact that their stocks have never fit my face well. A bolt action ml only adds length and weight for no reason. Weight is a big reason i got rid of a cva apex ML. over 8lbs for just an open sight ml? no thanks!

TC, forgot that! I've had many of them and accuracy with conicals was not great, along with their open sights that always shot 8" high at just 50 yards.

white, A&H.... WAIT.... ( u mean spanish junk? )

Remington? LOL, you can keep them $40 bag of primers sir.

Im finished with the plastic guns. Sure I might pick one up now and then to get some experience with but for my hunts, its wood and side hammer.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: cva wolf - 10/16/16
Really? Why don't you just stop?

Without CVA there IS NO WHC. CVA and it's brands are the ONLY sponsors. "Last you checked". Holy fuuk Jonathan, are you a sociopath?

You really think people believe ANY of the above post?

Wow dude....
Posted By: bigblock455 Re: cva wolf - 10/16/16
you're board line to a lawsuit my friend.
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: cva wolf - 10/16/16
LMAO.

GFY.

I would say continually using websites for free advertising to promote products without paid sponsorship would put you a lot closer to one than I.

Hmmm , now where have I heard this before? laugh

Don't see the reason to rag on BigBlock455, he's been around a long time and has helped many folks no matter what brand ML their shooting.

He probably hunts/shoots blackpowder more than most members. He contributes, shares his knowledge, hunting pics, shooting pics, ect. Sure beats alot of the stupid ass threads I've seen here over the years.

I hunt with my Apex during ML seasons, but outta the two I killed a 9 point in Iowa & 10 point in TN with Powerbelts.

Jonathan is alright. I don't hate him or anything.

If he did what he does with any other brands but CVA and Traditions, etc. it would not bother me nearly as much. I have hated CVA for a very long time. They care nothing about the safety of their customers or QC. It is all about making a buck. Extruded barrels. Non proof tested barrels, breech plugs missing threads, etc. Their track record has proven it 1000 times over. The fact that they repeatedly deny it, lie, and refuse to ever admit responsibility for their actions makes me sick. They are the worst of the worst in the firearms industry IMO.....
