Cold snowy day here and looking back at a few pics. Got this mule deer buck this Sept in Colorado. He was the first one out of velvet in his bachelor group. A full moon and warm temps made it a little challenging but was able to get him.

Used a .535 roundball and 95 grains of pyrodex on him. Penetrated from left side and exited right behind right shoulder. Made it about 50 yards. Those Sept bucks sure do eat good, been enjoying him all fall and winter.

Wow-za! He's got some headgear. Is that a Great Plains Rifle?

Tom, That is actually a Pecatonica parts rifle I put together. Well I put about 25% of it together and then had a gentleman named Jim Trueblood finish it up. Its a pretty close Hawken replica.

I have been eyeing a lefthanded Kit Carson Hawken kit from Track of the Wolf but I'd need someone to finish it out for me. No time these days, not to mention lacking most of the tools and skill set as I found with this one. I can shoot this one I have pretty well lefthanded but would feel better with the lock on the other side of the gun.
