Omega shooters; what’s your favorite load/bullet with BH209? I’ve been shooting 250gr Shockwaves with the EZ Slide sabot over 110gr of BH209 with a Federal primer. I’m getting 1 ½” group with that load, but I just put a new scope on and feel like tinkering.
I have been using the same bullet w/ the factory supplied sabots over 77gr weight of BH209 (which actually might be close to what you're at already!)

Shoots a pretty consistent 1.5"
Thanks. Did you ever chrono that load?
My suggestion would be to try the 250 gr Hornady SST with the red Low Drag Sabot and the same primer/powder charge. It's the same bullet but with a different sabot and the sabot IMO is what makes the most difference in accuracy. They're less expensive too.

This has been the most accurate load I've found in my Omega and groups slight under or over an inch @ 100 yards.

IIRC, it chronos about 2025 FPS.

Good luck.
I have an Omega, but have not shot BH out of it.

In my Pro Hunter, I run 115 of BH with a MMI orange sabot and 350gr .458 Hornady, Speer, or Kodiaks. Very accurate and when sighted in dead on at 100, it hits 8 inches low at 200.

Devastating on elk and whitetails. Golf ball sized entry and exit holes.
Try the 200 gr shock wave using from 90.0 to 110 grains of
BH-209 in 5 grain increments.

This bullet just slams deer out past 200 yards. Much more destructive bullet than the 250 gr shock wave.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give the SST's a try.

Doc, Do you think those 200 grain Shockwaves expand better than the 250's? I've never had a problem killing deer with the 250's myself but I've had several people tell me that they don't expand well? I've always wanted to try the 200's because I thought the recoil might be a bit milder for my daughters.
Dan and Doc, What kind of groups are you getting?

right around 1" at 100yds
I'm not fond of shockwaves have had some wonky results
I started shooting Powerbelts when I got the Omega. Talk about wonky results. The 250 gr bonded Shockwaves are a tough bullet IME. Probably don’t expand as much as some guys would like but I haven’t had a deer go more than 50 yards after a hit. Not sure why anyone would need the 300 gr. I’m just looking for a little more consistency.

1 inch to 1 1/4 inches with factory trigger shooting 3 shot groups. At 200 yards is where the 200 gr shock wave shines. Nine inches less drop
than the 250 gr shock wave. I have only shot one deer past 200 yards with the 200 gr shockwave, a clean pass through along with massive internal damage.

Yes the 200 gr shock wave absolutely expand better than the 250 gr shock wave. I have field dressed deer shot with both the 200 gr and the 250 gr shock wave, the 250 gr would channels and damage is similar to a 30-06 and a 200 gr bullet. The 200 gr shock wave is similar to a .270 130 gr or a 7mm using a 140 gr bullet.

Bullet: Barnes T-EZ 250 grain sabot replaced with a Harvaster Crushed Rib Sabot

Powder: BlackHorn 209 84 grains (weighted)

Primer: Federal 209

45 cal 300 grain Hornaday XTP
Harvester Crushed Rib sabot (the black one)
100 by volume (in the Blackhorn tubes) Blackhorn 209

Keyhole at 100 with 3 shot groups
Think it was around 1800fps. Can't remember
01foreman - How does that load shoot for you?

I ordered some Hornady SST 250's. The Barnes bullets are a little pricey IMO. If the Hornadies don't improve my group I'll try the Barnes T-EX's.

I have a box of 44 cal XTP's but they aren't really a long range bullet.
The Barnes are worth the $ for the preformance
