Looked at a Cabelas Hawken problem is the barrel is very grey.

There is no visible rust.

We have very little humidity here, Is this barrel savable?

The price is very tempting if I have a somewhat decent chance of the barrel cleaning up.
I'm no expert, just wondering what it might be. Lead from conicals? Very happy with my Cabelas Hawkens. The bores are kinda variable. Some are kinda rough, some smooth. One of the rough ones would collect lead, I would think. Numrich has some barrels for investarm. They are finished pretty smooth.
I think the cabelas hawkins may have been Investarms.

I have one and am pleased, no real complaints.

Might get lucky with jsut a leaded bore. Lap it good and keep it clean and dry, I bet a round ball wouldnt know the diference.

Half-price for it? Is this a retail gun store price.... or private owner?
Also, what's the condition, outside of the inner bore? How much visible wear?

That way we could price-advise a little better.

Yup, they were Investarms. If I remember correctly, I think Numrich was asking about 100.00 for a barrel. I have 5 Cabelas Hawkens, and a couple of extra barrels from Numrich. Those barrels have bores that are finished smoother than all of my stock ones, except for a .54 that is about 20 years old. They all shoot well, but the smooth ones are a lot cleaner shooting.
http://www.gun-parts.com/hawken/ You can try these guys too.
Went back to the store to look at the rifle again. It was too busy to haggle with them.

There is a flintlock shooter that works there and I will try to catch him next week as he hasn't steered me wrong yet.

The outside appearance of the rifle is good, too bad those under $100 barrels from Numrich are sold out.

Yeah, I went and looked, too. Not sure what Bob's (the link in my other post) has in stock, but he has barrels listed at 75.00. Now, whether that is a drop in, with sights, breech plug, etc, I don't know.
I have purchased and rejected several arms after I've been allowed to give them a good cleaning in the store.
