If it ever ends up ugly seems that we actually see more reaction from bears from 416 up...
Regardless punch em in the right place with a good bullet avoiding bones going in seems to work with a myriad of calibers
Avoid bones on bears? No way!
Just make sure your bullet leaves the bear. Contrary to rumor bear bones are not big nor particularly hard. They bend a lot more than moose bones.
I believe they flex rather than break and the result is a tougher bone. They did not evolve to survive a bullet, but they did to survive love taps from boars.
always avoid bones on bears going in. You have NO clue what a bullet does RE its path after it hits bone. Or if it will get through bone. If you have seen more than a few wounds.
That said break all the bone you want on the way out.
I won't give the go ahead until we are angled to avoid bone going in.
You and I both have a few years hunting. I simply head for the closest to 100 percent results I can get.
I"ve seen more than a few wild angles even on deer after a leg bone or joint was hit.
I've even seen an arrow exit a deer out of the top of its neck, entry was from elevated and in the ribs... broadside...heck I've seen javelina bite an arrow at the back end before it gets all the way through... but I digress
YMMV we can all do it the way we want I suppose.
