Foggy roads trigger 37-vehicle pileup that closed Glenn Highway for hours
But it makes the trees look beautiful!
Those dirty hoars.

That's what I call piling on

Insurance adjusters gonna be busy
Would have been quite a scare the Knik Bridge and ice zero visibility. We drove the old Glenn Hywy last Sunday where there was open water you had maybe 2-car length visibility. With the crazies on the Glen?
Surely a bicyclist was responsible in some way.
Same thing back in 1980`s me and a buddy pulled over before the bridge in the e lane because of the fog and watched people go by in the fog speeding like fools and pile up , one car was off the bridge half way through the ice. Like 28 cars ass ended it was amazing to watch LOL valley trash always in a hurry to go nowhere.

In a hurry to get to work, knowing that the pokes rolling into the highway in Evil River @ 40 mph are going to slow everything down until they wake up somewhere south of the weigh station.
With the inversion and cold in Fairbanks, we may as well have thick fog. I’m expecting a major pileup on the Richardson 500 either between North Pole and Fairbanks, or just north of town going towards Fox.

Lots of drivers going way faster than their line of site and visibility allows. My brakes kept locking up from ice buildup this morning and power steering pumps aren’t working too well either.

It’s a perfect storm….
And it’s it even cold yet!

Cold enough jn Fairbanks, hanging at -40 today and ice fog.
Good day to play checkers!

Ivory Jacks was pretty quiet in spite of the free parking

In a hurry just flat amazes me. There are places to drive fast. But thats not one of them. Not at all. Not even in good weather. Get up earlier. Leave earlier, whatever. Value my life if you don't value yours.

I guess I've worked too many wrecks from idiots in a hurry in my life.
I planned on running out to Big Lake tomorrow to do some fishing. With tonight’s snow there’s no way I’m gonna make that drive in the morning. Too many dumbasses on the road. I don’t have any issues driving in any weather, but that road can get nuts with the commuters.
Compared to pre-1973, even with the morning and evening rush, the Glenn Hwy between Anchorage and the Valley is absolutely beautiful, especially with today's automotive and tire technology. Even if you run into a ditch, you can call for help from the warmth of your cab, and there are actually people to call who can help and will come..........if you have your credit card.

I take it they didn't do a Patton on the wrecks?

Almost had a wreck on that bridge a few decades back. I was riding with a friend in his od PU, headed up to Wasilla about 2 a.m. mid-winter.

Right out in the middle of the bridge from the abutments , I did a double-take and looked at Bud, who had no reaction. "Didn't you see that moose?"

"What moose?"

"The one in the other lane, just barely. Missed her by a good 2 feet!"

"Nope".
Barely made it home last night from the airport scary whiteout on glenn and anc was a total mess. Couldn`t see 2 car lengths in front of me had highbeams and hazards on . Think I only had two cars pass me around midnight. Made for a good pucker factor going home. Be safe guys the moose are popping out everywhere in town now around 1100pm .
