...Fish and Game about this but screw it, I'll ask here.

This year, in August I will be old enough for the free fishing and hunting licence. However, I will already have purchased my 2011 licences. It it only free once you actually hit the magic number or does it start being free on January 1st of the calender year you are officially old? The regs don't spell it out so I'm assuming it's gonna be August before I qualify. cry

Mr. AlaskaFE,
Seem to recall it is issued after the "date of birth" rather than the beginning of the year. Believe there was a question on the form that asked when you were born and it has to be after the anniversary of that date before it will be issued.
It was a long time ago when I received the permit and I have trouble just remembering what I had for breakfast yesterday.
Best Wishes
What is the "magic number". My son hits the magic number on the other end this year, ironically enough.
Nevermind.

Looks like you gotta pay until Aug., FE.

I was wondering about that for the kids, guess not an issue as my daughter will for sure need a license next year.

I get mine in February of 2011...guess I won't go hunting or fishing the first 51 days of the year grin.

Don't be in that big of hurry to grow up little grasshopper. It ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Amen Phil!

It's really nice to get a free license but you soon learn that you aren't much of a threat to the wildlife.

Oh well, it's not like I have to take a second out on the house or anything to buy the license so I'll shell out the cash. Especially since I am thinking about putting in for this year's Tier I hunt in area 13 soon.
oh chit, gotta get my apps in! good reminder

if it wasn't for apps, I'd tell you buy the fishing license only then after your b'day buy your hunting license

as much as I gripe about gov't I am glad they give the freebie license to our seniors

though my friend Vern seldom steers me wrong. He may very well be correct by then I won't be much of a threat to wildlife at all.

I've already pretty well given up on the wild/night/life available in town!

I'm with Dennis ... growing OLD and TRYING to hunt under the free license sounds pretty good ....

Oh yeah, there's another reason to beat this cancer. I do not intend to get old enough to get free hunting licenses and then die. grin

Exactly my plan...seems to be working so far... grin.

You can apply with your current license, but would need a new one for Aug hunts (as well as spring bear) smile
