Yeah, 12' is the number they gave for subsidence... I remember houses tilted at 45 degrees in Muldoon.

Somewhat like these? I remember far worse and any number of them though I don't have time to search out more.

Cannot for the life of me remember where #3 was...Government Hill?

(She was from South Dakota. blush ......... wish I could blame her ‘place of origin’, but I never did work with a supervisor of that particular gender who was worth spit, so I’ll go with that instead.)

Klik,

Attended Black Hills State in So-Dak back in the dark ages. The population of us co-conspirators leaned 70% female, 30% male. Most came from the farms and ranches in the state.

Being the anomaly there compared to most(I did use my "Alaskan" status to it's best advantage wink ) I had the opportunity to engage and converse in work with many decent ladies. Never had problems of any kind, for these ladies were dedicated, fun loving, genuine, and yet, somewhat "motherly."

Those from back east however, were another story completely... smile

Whoever coined the “odds or good, but the goods odd” deal about Alaska might easily have been talking about some of the women it attracts too - without commenting on their original source. And I’m not sure why many of the good women I’ve worked with have never risen to supervisor levels; always seems unfortunate that leadership positions seem to be more of a personal choice (and perhaps political) rather than based on real and valid ability, at least in education. (Plenty of males who are pretty generic goods in that regard too.)

A very good friend coined that and sells the tees...

Hmmm down on Vancouver Island we were whining about a few cars getting wet a few boat breaking loose.
Looks like you had a rough time of it.

The best I have is this:

I have been to Alaska three times - once by Motorcycle to Prudhoe Bay, twice to hunt Sitka and Goat. Every time I come home I think "Ahhhh, I've finally gotten Alaska out of my system."

Yeah, 18 months...damn, now I need to go back for sheep.

I'm not 51 but while I was in Valdez I did go to the museum there - it was an amazing trip down history lane. HIGHLY recommended.

so you're one of those crazy bastids I see riding a bike up the haul road!

lol, you'se a brave sob, those trucks throw up some huge rocks!

have had a few hit my pickup, but over the years the road has been vastly improved.

started when the state started farming out road maintenance to private firms.

that rock crusher Great Northwest hauled up there was a splendid idea.

have had up to four flats traveling that road, last couple of times I did it, no flats

Valdez Museum is nice, most of the stuff there from a private collection.
