My kids (30yo) is going to u of a part time ,so she's in anchor town , she came up for dads day and wanted a couple fish poles etc so she would have her own , I sent her down with a 8'ulgy stick /spinning set up for salmon and a old 6'6 and smaller set up for trout/pike stuff.....have not fished down that way for years ..so what line are u guys spooling with ? I use nothing but the blue box triline for every thing ..for me I use 12lb test for the gulkana, and 6lb for the trout and grayling...she's going to need a bit more than that as I'm am the drag master ! Lol...BTW a fish wheel don't use line ...
Maxima... you have been led to water...
For mono 6# for trout, 14-20# for salmon and as Sitka says Maxima is as good as it gets.

If running braid I like 10# for trout and 20-30# for salmon. Power pro seems as good as any in the lighter weights. One of the nice things about braid is you can run 10# on a light or ul rod, still cast light jigs as far as you want and have strong enough line to take salmon.

Art, do you prefer Ultragreen or Chameleon?
I get steep discounts on Maxima, but use Izor line.
RIO Gold.

Chameleon, by a mile. A little stiffer and tougher to use, but abrasion resistance is through the roof. UG is only ordinary.

Tried IZOR and did not find it nearly as good in the rockpiles I fish.
Thanks men !

I don't use mono in rockpiles.
Are Maxima fluoros as good as their monos?
Ultragreen works well here for steel head and salmon fishing with bait/flies.
But, our rocks are mostly smooth and we don't need as much abrasion resistance.
I wouldn't use Chameleon on a spinning rod, and I don't care for it on baitcasters either. I'm a big fan of Ultragreen, I use it on all my reels and tie my leaders with it too. I'm going more and more to braid though.
I admit I haven't tried Izor, but I've gone thru most of the others.

I have been using these topshots for several years and they are great in front of braid...

I have seen Maxima come back in tatters with jig and fish still attached... Izor was toast. Pline was worse.
Meant to add a link...

I use 60# powerpro for downriggers and Izor or big game or ultra green for leader material.
