Hear tell that Craig Compeau is hosting an auction and BBQ this Saturday. Planning to make a donativation.

Anyone know anymore or planning to go? (Saw a poster at the Fair, and a blurb on the news. That's all.)
Hadn't heard a thing about it Mark

I'll be upriver so won't attend.

Will look for details, never heard of the guy they're fundraising for
Randy, Think Supreme Court case re: Federal Land access
T'was talking to him (Compeau) today and it sounds like they have quite a few 'things' in the donation tally. An airboat, some smaller boats, machines, etc. Kind of surprised it hasn't been ramped up a bit more....hard to find much press on it. I think he said the Alaska Outdoor Council is handling the money transfer portion of it.

Randy-
Ya need to pay attention!

Sturgeon is the hovercraft guy whose case went to the supremes.
Yer swooft Mark!
Is Dana DeBernardi bundling this at her usual rate?
Still a few hundred-thousand short I hear. It got me thinking, we're just a bunch of peons with a system that looks like it should work for us, but.....

I think it helps to focus on "bunch" rather than the "peons" part. wink
After a bit more poking around....

I gave them a new in box campstove that I had...this time they are looking for big stuff over 300$ i think....
Of course I wish these things would sell themselves without a bunch of horn-tootin' but it doesn't seem to work that way. Anyway, I donated this to the cause:

I would bet that someone will buy it at a very good price - stuff less than $1000 will be per sealed bid. I'd be happy to hear that someone here was putting it to good use. It's not a very big sled; only six feet long, so it isn't something that would be comfortable to ride on, but it should make a handy trapping or day-tripping sled. (I don't normally build them so short, but a fellow kept bugging me for a 5-6' sled for use up in the White Mountains for hauling some extra gas. Well, guess what? Yeah, stupid me. blush )
Shameless self-promotion!

Good for you. Be sure to deduct full value on your taxes.

Makes me wish I needed such a nice sled.

Tell us more about this SG. Gotta be a story...
It's not my story to tell... I was hoping someone more on the "in"terior would chime in. I'm sure if AOC is handling it, it will be totally fine.
Well chit I'll have to look around for a spare hundy

I had to drive by the nps building the other day

Their parking lot was full!

I'm hopin to hades it was folks in there raising Cain?

Surely they don't employ that many people do they?

Yeah, right! No longer a fan of AOC after the way they went after Ted.
To recap, someone got a good deal on a pre-hbs 444 Marlin for around $200. Same for a m39 Marlin. 5 hp new-looking Honda outboard could have been stolen for $400, but nobody bid. Airboat went for $12K starting bid. Pretty weak auction. Economy must be thriving. ....... Or not!
Missed,it as I was upriver. Did see Craig Friday morning & Rodney too (he's back working at compeaus). Slipped Craig a hundy for the cause & thanked him for getting in front of it.

Nps like most gov't they do a lil good, but am left wondering if it's worth the price
That was good of you, Randy. Craig put a good face on it, but I would be surprised if he wasn't as disappointed as I was at the prices. Wish I had had a loose $1K lying around for something other than rent and feeding the boys. I would certainly have been willing to lay some cash down there.

I wonder if we're starting to see the front end of a big downturn, something I kind of expect to happen. Real estate doesn't reflect it in the prices yet, but there seems to be more of it on the market. Lots of new vehicles moving, but I reckon that reflects lines of credit more than anything.

Might be time to start targeting the military guys for all their loose change.
I suspect a deep low, ala 1986, here in Los Anchorage for the near term, with garage sales and Craigslist shining the light on the pulse of the people.

Very little positive to feel good about for the economy...
