Hurricaine force winds predicted last night and look to have arrived. Curious what it will look like this morning around the neighborhood. Folks have been cutting trees all over the place since the last big blow and some have surely come down in the last 12 hours.

If it was anywhere else they would name it...

Looks like they backed off the highs in wind speed from last night. Gusts to 75 for this morning up where we are cutting moose.

We taxied out in ANC at 5am this morning... and taxied back. I like pilots like that, they listened as it took a 747 3 approaches to land...

We took off an hour later after some others had taken off landed and had rough but safe reports. Roughest ride I"ve ever had in a commercial jet, and most screaming, hand holding etc.... I've ever seen for 30 minutes of the ride.

I rarely get queezy but actually got the sweats about 10 minutes into it. Had to take the sweatshirt off and get the AC on me to dry off.

We side slipped pretty noticeably as the wheels lifted, off to the right but they expected it and caught it with rudders I"m sure, and all was fine. I was ok as soon as we gained enough altitude that I was sure we were not going to be down drafted into the ground again.

Not glad to be home in the heat... 96 at 730 pm. But 2 weeks will have to do for another 50..... Starting to look for jobs for the two of us that would pay the bills of down here and insurance and such up there... hopefully in 4 years we'll have that figured out.

Was a little breezy on the hillside last night and this morning.

It was breezy enough here in Delta that we won't see a small woman for a few weeks.
Posted By: 458 Lott Re: A Little Breezey - 09/21/16
There are lots of parts in Alaska where you won't see a small woman for weeks, and it's not due to the wind wink

eek

Keep it up and you'll do well to put some dry straw in the dog house just in case. wink

Weather service says the gusts only hit 90, but kept it up long enough for most of the skinny women in ANC to make it to Delta...

They both landed before noon.

I'm hurrying to town to verify....Art's been known to lead us astray.

I dunno 90 or not, but the side slip when the AK jets wheels lifted off as a bit interesting...

Did I mention I've never been on a flight that had so much screaming on it...

yes you did!
Posted By: rost495 Re: A Little Breezey - 09/22/16
Wasn't me... I was to busy trying to quit sweating... I swear I"ve never been airsick in a big plane.... only once in a Helio....

Carolyn won't let me forget we normally fly out at 2am or so, not 5am and that had we done that earlier flight.....
Posted By: ironbender Re: A Little Breezey - 09/22/16
Yeah, yeah, yeah, honey.

It would have been worse earlier.......or not.

I used to be able to get wind speeds from NOAA via their mesonet webpage, but apparently that webpage is kaput. I'm thinking triple digits would have woken me up. It blew pretty good, but I don't think it was honkin that hard. Then again I didn't replace the kids trampoline that blew away in the last hard blow, so my anemometer wasn't working wink

I've had a few landings at Ted Stevens when the 737 was doing the funky chicken while approaching the tarmac.

100+ may have been only a gust. wink

Wondering what the maximum crosswind component of a 737-900 is crazy

Hit us this morning. Pretty good blow. Ocean looked fun.

Why those absolute MORONS at NOAA changed their website is beyond me!!! It was such a good site and so easy to get around. When the POS programmer dies and goes to HELL, a given, he will have to navigate a steady stream of websites every waking hour and while none will be as bad as the schit he wrote it will continue to get worse in perpetuity...

And it will change every hour!

With the site so totally screwed up I cannot even find what I thought I found before!

Just one bull left to cut!

It's a government agency, if they have a website the is useful and easy to navigate they simply have to get rid of it to keep everyone's expectations low for all their nearly impossible to navigate websites. That said the marine weather websites are still pretty good, well until they "improve" them.

That mesonet website was awesome to see how temps and wind speed very throughout town and to track Chinooks when you see the temps rising in the upper elevations of the Chugach.

I can hear the decision maker now "I just heard people love the website, change it!"

So it wasn't just me being 'set in my ways' after all. laugh

I kind of think these .gov websites are rated based on how much traffic they get. If people use them, change stuff until they don't.
