In a first, AFN board endorses a presidential candidate -- Clinton



FAIRBANKS — Just as thousands of people were descending on Fairbanks for the Alaska Federation of Natives' annual convention, the influential organization's board endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, calling her "the right leader."

Julie Kitka, AFN president, told a pre-convention tribal conference Wednesday it was the first time in AFN's 50-year history that it was making an endorsement for president.

The announcement came at a joint conference of AFN and the National Congress of American Indians.

The board decided to take the step at its meeting Tuesday. Kitka said at the joint conference that the board is not trying to tell anyone how to vote but is giving members guidance as it urges them to go to the polls.

I guess they are going to do hand out packs of smokes at polling places and tell them to x the box next Hillary name.. I grew up on a reservation I'm 1/4 Indian myself card carrying and pisses me off to no end to see the natives blindly follow like sheep and vote democrat... all you have to yell is free money and point those republucans over their want to take your free money.

I get tired of the same old song and dance the white man this white man that .. Indians refuse to help themselves they rather sit around point and blame someone else for all their problems.. they will bus thousands of Indians to North Dakota to protest a pipeline.. but will not address the white elephant in the room drugs/alcoholism, teen suicide, rape, incest, teen pregnancy etc. god forbid you mention that stuff.. They will sit around denying all that while their 16yr old kid getting knocked up drunk off their ass..

Not surprising. Most of the leadership admits they vote democrap anyway. That was revealed when Joe Miller beat Slisa in the primaries.

Alaska could easily go to Hillary. As I pointed out before, 20% of voters are Native. And they vote lockstep Democrat. Most of them are unthinking sheep who go however thei leadership dictates.

It only takes a bit over 30% of the rest of the states voters to have the majority to cast our one electoral vote for the evil bitch. Either one.

I think.. Is it for certain our vote must go with the majority vote? Or are there wrinkles? I really don't know, and should.

I've been around bush villages about 15 of the last 40 years. It is my considered view that almost all of Native leadership is corrupt. If not before getting in, then they become so afterward. This includes several people I consider friends otherwise. So this makes them fit the Democratic Party like a condom.

Nepotism and incompetence generally provide such results.

I have not been to OTZ in quite awhile but I am sure that it will never be the same since The Great One (Obama) brought his mega-million "dog and pony show" up there there last year for global warming photo ops. You know he promised the local NANA leaders "the moon" in freebies from the bottomless government coffers. Hard to believe NANA has large multinational business interests/ownership in multiple companies and yet many of their members/stockholders (?5,000 or less) still live in poverty... did I hears someone mention the word corruption?

I have dear friends up there (non-native) who are retired teachers and have chosen to stay there (speaks of their love and commitment to the area and people)... they thought Obama's visit was the next best thing since home cured seal oil and muktuk. I couldn't hardly stand to talk to them about it... fortunately, they did not have any photos with the jive talker on their Christmas card!

That govt tit means you don't have to do anything for yourself. It also means you have no self-respect. Most tribal govts are largely funded by the feral govt, especially in AK.

Some of the exceptions would be the ones that have successful casino enterprises.

I find it difficult to understand how one can claim sovereignty while making the entity that one is supposed to be sovereign from pay for it and not have any say.

Oh well, I guess they can keep drinking and killing themselves off on the taxpayer dime.

3. Slipped a cog there!

It was that or go hunting. Might have been a little tricky getting out of town on the Honda with a rifle strapped on my back, what with the posted snipers, roving patrols, and Blackhawk gunship....

But at least we got 2 streets cleaned up. The one he took to the high school and the one he took back to the airport. One doesn't want to over do these things.

Like I said before... Dog and Pony show, and an expensive one at that!

No thanks on the photos, I want to remember the H.S. gymnasium the way it was when I was there... 30 years pre-Obama.

BTW, how many barges did it take to get all of the yard ornaments out of town? Some of that stuff was just starting to rust when I walked those dusty streets! I collected quite a few neat old Alaska licence plates from the early 60's off some of the old abandoned cars in yards... favorites are the yellow Big Dipper/North Star plates and the Bicentennial Brown Bear plates! Another guy gave me a couple of old freeze dried, dusty (? how old!!!) wolf hides off his shed next to the road by his house. I was bored so I took them home, washed them in the tub, dried them, cut off the nasty parts, and treated them with borax. I then cut them up, pieced and sewed them back together, lining the backs and made two real nice fur ruffs for my coats. I still have those ruffs, now almost 35 years later, and they still look nice and the hair has never slipped!

Good memories are starting to come back now, overshadowing the bad Obama vibes. I remember coming up on some road construction going on ??? First Street up by the old Wien Building near the airport. They were digging trenches and must have gone through an old native burial area. On the gravel pile was sitting a perfect, intact old human skull. I thought that was pretty cool (my Dad had an old one in his office from dental school) so I decided that would make a neat addition to my collection of "trinkets". I stopped the truck, grabbed it, tucked it away and stashed it in the back of the store where I worked as a warehouseman/delivery boy. I don't remember whether I told anyone about it or whether someone just saw it , but it did not stay in my possession very long! My boss quickly snatched it back up and promptly put it back in the trench and buried it! I got the lecture later that day. He also was not very pleased when I told him that first summer about "popping away" at ravens out at the infamous KOTZ dump with my Uncle's Mini-14... young and dumb!!! Fortunately for me and them, I figured out the local "do's and dont's pretty quick!!!

Great times for an 18 year old. Ed, my boss, paid me at the end of the summer in $1000 dollar bills a couple of years. Not knowing what they were and saving my money for college, I innocently took them home and deposited them in the bank (I had thought it was cool that I could pack my whole summers earnings into my wallet!). My dad about keeled over a few years ago when I told him that.

I wouldn't trade those experiences and many others up there for anything... guess that is why the whole Obama visit/media circus bugged me so much. KOTZ deserves more than that... too unique and beautiful in it's own special way to be ruined by the politics of Washington D.C.and the charades of the POTUS for his own personal benefit/ego/legacy, IMHO.

Very hard to imagine $1,000 bills still in circulation that late... Gresham's Law is generally considered very reliable... And certainly any number of such a rare bill is harder yet...

Of course this was in about 1982 or 1983 as well. I think I made about $6,000 or $7,000 a summer the first couple of years I worked up there and I remember stuffing those into my wallet before jumping on the old Wien 737 that first week of September, mid 30's outside and spitting snow. Took the "red eye" home from ANC to SLC, flirting with the Western Airlines stewardesses in the back of the plane, arriving to 90+ degree weather in Salt Lake in the morning... too hot! Life was good and simple back then.

Ed knew what he was doing when he gave me those bills. He was pretty savvy and was trying to impress me and reward me at the same time. I had wanted to work at the "fish lot" buying fish from the commercial fisherman but he insisted that I stay at the "store" working in the back. I wasn't happy... he knew I wanted to be out where the "action" was (or at least I thought that's where it was at!) I just wish he'd told me how special those bills were. I do remember him telling me to be careful with them... maybe he was referencing the stewardesses mentioned earlier!
