Good stuff! Was that the Eklutna drawing permit hunt?
Very cool.
The silent yell was cracking me up.
Great video, great hunt!!!
UFTA!!!! (the North Dakota pronunciation..)
Great vid
Enjoyed
Congrats to that young man well done
Very cool.
On a side note, and nothing inferred at all, its wild to see the energy of youth and excitement, and exactly how I'd have been at that age, vs how my emotions would run on something like that these days.
Youth is not wasted on the young!
KK, that is just superb. What a great hunt! This is a memorable young man.
7.5 miles back and a 109 lb pack -- ouch!
To say I've seen a lot of hunting videos would be, um, inaccurate via understatement.
None beat this one.
Hell of a job, kid. Hell of a job. This is the way it should be.
He is one tough cookie! Amazing quality of the video also for a solo hunt. I have been hunting with David and his brother since they were in there early teens.
I had to watch it a couple of times in a row before posting this.
Dang fine job, and quite an accomplishment.
Congrats to the hunter.
That was pretty ballsy to do an archery grizzly hunt solo. Kudos to him!
Did he go back to haul out the carcass?
Did he go back to haul out the carcass?
Not if he has any sense...
And I am sure he does...
That was cool. Congrats to the hunter.

And, what would be the point?
Kurt,
Please pass along my admiration to your friends. Awesome job. That is what you call a Hunter!

So...did he take any part of the bear back with him?
Head paws claws" hide?
Or was it just a culling of the bear population?
Don't get it...somebody please explain..Thanks!
What its called a bear hunt he took 110 lbs of head hide uncaped. The hide froze on him heck of a time getting it in pack. Drawing permit br bear hunt.
Kurt-
Any numbers on skull and/or hide? Lifesize or just tan/rug?
Beauty bear.

Super cool video and nads of steel! Congrats to the hunter.
We shot a 8.5 footer that fell in a creek once. It wasn't so cold that it froze, but that hide with the head and feet in it probably went 200 lbs since it was soaking wet. We got it lashed to my pack and I had my two buddies pull me up. Luckily it was only about a 1/2 mile pack, but it bent the hell out of my freighter frame.
Awesome stuff!
8.5' bear... 200 pounds of wet hide???????
Nope...

Head, hide, and paws soaking wet. I skinned that bear in shin deep water after I couldn't float it any longer from deeper water.
If it wasn't 200 lbs it was damn close. Close enough in my mind to use that number. Send me your email address and I'll include you in an email to my friend asking him what his thoughts on the weight was.
I'll tell you one thing Art, I have no need to tell bullshit stories.YMMV.
Same relative size bear shot on Kodiak by OlBlue. It dove into the saltwater and stayed there for quite a while as the tide receded. Three posters from here, me included, saw the bear, skinned the bear, and moved the bear around...
200 pounds is a ridiculous estimate unless the bear hide was still carrying well over 50 pounds of fat and flesh.
I have seen 200 pound wet bear hides, but they were from far larger bears.
Sorry if that does not fit your version of things, nor your memories, but I have had bear hides on scales too many times to accept the number 200 on an 8.5' bear hide, skull in.
Apologies to the OP for the distraction. Again,
Well done and some great video.
would have to say that since art didn't see how well or closely it was skinned, the 200 pound number could easily be wrong or right. Doesn't much matter though, I'd say it classified as MF/SOB trying to stand up....
I doubt I could stand with 150 anymore. Damn sure not 200.

Sorry, skinned too many and weighed them for 200 to be a real number. Leaving well over 50# of flesh on a hide that size does not count as skinning it... and that is accounting for feet, skull, and plenty of water.
In the video pack wt 110 lbs bear right over 7 ft as I recall.

Total pack weight was 109 according to the video.

Brown bear meat does not require recovery. The hide and appendages is all normally recovered on a brown. I don't know that anyone eats brown bear meat other than other browns and carrion eaters.
I know lots of folks that eat brown bear and there GMUs that have subsistence hunts that require removal of meat for brown bear. Having been around it, I can say it's not for me--it is for the mature palate....

For the brown bear consumers I know that's more true than not...
