Another cheechako question, are phone rates, line, and/or cell higher, or different in Alaska than the lower 48?
Higher. I'm amazed at what relatives pay for similar service down in America.
It must be the shipping.
And getting worse.....switched to AT&T and regretting it.
we kept our Alaska numbers and service when we left 6 years ago, taxes down here in the commie-wealth of VA would have cost us a lot more
AT&T is good if you have kids going outside for school as it's unlimited minutes long distance between phones in your plans, but otherwise is spendy.
Alaska Communications land line: $16.50 plus tax per month.
AT&T Cell phone:$60-$90 per month (including data) depending on plan.
Still hanging on to a land line here. Never had a dropped call with it.
Where we live there's no competition; GCI for cell service and the local co-op for land lines. Prices and service are commensurate with the amount of competition...
Land line prices are regulated by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska regardless of competition.
