I bought several boxes of PPU 7x57 cartridges several years ago on sale, mainly for the brass. It’s loaded with 139 grain soft point bullets. Just wondering if anyone has used this ammo on deer sized game? Just curious about the bullet’s performance. MV is 2,630 fps.

Shot a couple does with it. Acted like any other cup and core bullet. No complaints

It's good brass, nice and thick long lasting too. I use it in my 22 Hornet reloads.

I've used it.

Just fine.

I shot two pronghorn with the factory ammo you described. As blairvt stated, it worked fine, just like any other conventional bullet.

i bought 5 boxes for brass & brl break in... it was so dirty burning that i pulled the bullets and replaced the powder... brass is good... bullets should be fine for deer and such...

Long time ago, when I was in Billings I bought 5 or 6 boxes as it was so cheap, I couldn't handload it for that cheap.

I still have the brass tho, and am still shooting it each year.

and as said above their bullets will keep deer as well as our bullets.

i use 22 Hornet, 8x57 and 7.65x53 Prvi brass and i have no complaints. i use 8x57 Prvi brass to form 7x57 and 9.3x57.

I bought a case to use in my custom Mauser. Cheaper than I could handload, especially since 1x fired brass is almost impossible to find. Very accurate in my rifle, but only 2550 over the chrono. Haven't taken any game with it yet, but figure it will work just fine based on numerous reviews.

I've used it in 6mm rem and 6.5x55. Works just fine on deers.

I shot a deer this fall at 35 yards... 131 grain bullet at 2600 fps per ppu.

Bullet looked like it detonated. Obviously killed the deer but it ran 250 yards before it died. Huge entrance.

Shot a small buck later with the same load, it did not blow up but it also didn't punch thru both sides at close range.

Not sure what I think of that. I had 2 dead deer but no magazine-cover mushroom

Edited to add...not 7x57, but 6.5x55 in my case

I've used the essentially the same load in rimmed form, and it shot accurately and killed well. No complaints at all. As others have said the brass is good value too.

I've used it in the past on pigs. No complaints but not the best accuracy out of my rifles. The brass is great, though. I anneal the necks after every two or three loadings, and I haven't yet thrown any out because of loose primer pockets.

I have used them on red deer, bigger than mule deer, smaller than elk. Were all fairly close shots in bush, so around 20 - 75 metres. Bullet worked just fine even though it was going slow.

PPU Brass is excellent for reloading. I load them for my BRNO model 21, which I load up to "proper" pressures, getting 2925 fps and great accuracy, and this brass is lasting even at higher pressures.

Bought ten boxes of the 139 gr. BTSP's for the brass a while back. As stated above cheaper than I could buy bare brass. They shoot just under an inch in my M70 Featherweight and I wouldn't hesitate to pop a deer with one.

I’ve used them PPU Thunder to take several Whitetail bucks. Excellent performance in my M70 featherweight. It is slow, but complete penetration.

You guys like the M70 as a 7x57 platform then?

That one ("Grom") shoots very, very well in my MRC 7x57 - much better than the 139-gr PSP in my rifles - and punches through feral pigs with no problem. I recovered one that was the result of a "two-fer." There was a smaller pig behind a boar I shot, and the bullet passed through the boar and went into the small one, breaking its spine just in front of the shoulder. I still have the bullet somewhere, but the mushroom looks a lot like a Barnes. I need to run one over the chronograph to measure the actual velocity. I don't that load around anymore, but Prvi still shows it as an offering.

I've got 5 boxes of PPV 139's coming. We'll see how they perform in a NIB 7x57 Winchester XTR Fwt. that is enroute. I have to dig out my H4350 data for the 140's and 150's.

Shoot a lot of .270 Win./150 gr. SP for the brass.

Should be fine for any cup-n-core hunting needs.

We concern ourselves with it because of the price point.

Though my real experience using that brand ammo makes me less and less concerned. I now treat it the same now as the green and yellow Remington box stuff.

Would I feel handicapped using that 7x57 ammo on deer sized game? Absolutely not.
