I found some info on this once, but haven't been able to find it again. I've found grips for it, but not the mechanics. I only know of the gun as a Buffalo Scout. It is a 22 revolver that my Dad bought in probably the late 70's. My guess is that it was a very inexpensive unit.
For reasons I'd not like to go into, I need to come up with a plan to disable it and would like to check my facts first. I'm guessing it could be as simple as filing the firing pin off of the hammer. Any help would be appreciated.
I've seen it referenced as Tanarmi TA22 on a forum.
Correct about it being inexpensive. The Buffalo Scout sold in the Seventies was a (West) German made copy of the single-action Colt Frontier Scout .22 revolver, which was a reduced-size modern version of the old Colt Frontier center-fire.
Quickest way to 'disable' it is to put the gun at half-cock, push aside the cylinder axis pin retaining plunger, pull out the cylinder axis pin, open the cartidgeloading gate, and remove the cylinder from the frame; gun is now a paper weight, cannot be fired.
Thing is, it needs to appear functional. I know, dangerous...
Fill the chambers with JB Weld.
I'm thinking his eyes are bad enough that he won't be able to open the safe, but I'd still rather not do anything destructive or irreversible to the gun. It's never been fired and has been in the safe for the last 20 or so years. He bought it when there wer bears frequenting the garbage cans at the campground. He only recently brought it out when he heard what he called wolves (coyotes likely) howling when a friend and I were back in the woods on our tractors digging ditches and stumps after dark.
Is it possible to change the combination on the safe ? Gun would stay intact and you would be the only one able to open it.
Have the hammer (spring?) removed and store it in a safe box or place away from the pistol. If you ever decide to use the gun it can then be replaced.
New info: It has been removed from the premises (safest) for now.
It is a FIE E-15
Heavy, old west style cowboy pistol 4 clicks on the hammer. I haven't seen it, but it says something about only loading every other chamber...
