Playing musical scopes and put the K3 bought on here onto a very old 760 '06.

Figured I'd put a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32 Circle X SG scope on the Frontier .358; trouble was, the objective touches the "scout mount". And I don't feel like pulling that part off the barrel.

Remembered a Weaver low-powered variable my brother picked up at a gunshow about 25 years ago and never mounted. Then I found out why: the box said it had the Dual-X reticle, but the scope actually has straight crosshairs that appear very thin to me.

It appears he was duped at the show.

So, two questions for the gunwriters, et al:

1. Will the thin crosshairs be a hindrance treestand hunting in the woods?

2. Will the scope survive the fairly healthy thump of a 6.5-pound .358?

IMO fine crosshairs can be a real problem in the woods....I have a couple that I use for squirrel hunting and sometimes they are very difficult to pick up[i][/i]. In the woods i think they would be problematic for deer hunting, especially if you had to pick them up quick.....squirrels usually give you a few minutes to mess with such things......again just my opinion. Great scope though, have one with an dot on a Marlin 62.

I have several fixed power Weavers with the fine crosshairs, and yes, they are tough to see in the woods. However, I have made several quick shots with them and had no trouble. I think I was worried beforehand, but when the moment of truth arrived, no trouble. I can't speak to the variable's durability.

Only beef I've ever had with the thin crosshairs is in low light conditions, asides from that I really like them and use them a lot. My guess is it will hold up fine on your 358.

the crosshairs will definatly be a hinderance and the recoil will break the scope in half.
Pack it up and send it to me for proper disposal.

I need to cruise the Classifieds and see if anybody has a 2.5X Leupy LW with Heavy Duplex...that would make it a Perfect Packin Woods Carbine. Or get a set of medium rings and just mount the dang bushnell. I may put the steel Weaver on my '78 Model 10/22 for a squirrel zapper...

Dang you CC, that's what I'd done with it. Have one on a 45/70 and have shot it a blue zillion times and it still works great. Would be just the thing for a squirrel rifle.

I have had three different older Weaver steel tube scopes on my slug shooting shotgun, two K2.5 60B's and a V4.5. All have performed flawlessly, the K2.5's have post and crosshair reticles and the V4.5 is a duplex. Fine crosshair is more for targetwork than hunting as I could see how it would easily disappear on a dark day in heavy cover.
