Anybody used Varget with Nosler 260 Accubonds or 300 partitions in the 375 H&H? I need a starting point to wrk up from. Running out of RL 15.

Thanks,
Bruce

I load 60gr of Varget under 270gr Hornadys. It's under max in pressure, velocity, and recoil. Fed GM215M sparks.

You didn't ask about this one, but in case you're interested in a reduced load for practice and deer, try 40gr of Accurate 5744 under those 270gr Hornadys. It gives around 2k FPS and recoils about like a 20 gauge shotgun. This shoots accurately in my M70.

Thanks for the info Big R. I'll try that with 270's. Hodgdon doesn't have any 260 data, so I may have to start with 60 under them and work up.

The "work up" part is optional, actually. Depends on what game animal you plan to shoot, and how far away you plan to shoot them. The 5744 load will be waaay enough for deer, and the 60/Varget load is nothing to sneeze at. Do you really need to push it to the top?

That 270 load is fine for what I need, but I need to work up Varget loads for the 260.

Thanks for the help.

That 260 Accubond is a good bullet. Accurate and it works real well.

Guy,
I have 250 of them and lots of Varget. Unfortunately I am running out of RL-15. I hope they work well in my #1 and Sako Deluxe. No listed, tested loads for Varget from Hodgdon or Nosler though. I emailed Hodgdon through their site and haven't heard anything yet and am somewhat reluctant to venture into uncharted waters without some guidance.

I know RL-15 works well with 69 grains. I was thinking of starting around 65 to 66 grains and working up to around 2600 FPS with Varget. Big R's load of Accurate 5744 with 270's sounds like a fun load too, but haven't seen any around lately. I may just go with IMR 4064 or H4895 since I have lots of those powders too.

I've used 67.0 grs of Varget with a CCI 250 primer and 260 gr Accubonds for around 2550 fps out of my 700 XCR with a 24" barrel.

Also used Varget with the 235 Sierra with pretty good results.

GunLoony88, Thanks for the info that is very helpful. No one else seems to have used Varget with the 260. I will probably start with that.

Wild_Bill_375, Thanks, I have Hodgedon's on line data that shows what you posted.

I want to use the Nosler 260 as a 300 yard elk load at around 2600 to 2700 FPS and this will get me started in that direction with Varget.

Thanks folks, now to load up a test sequence and wait for the snow to melt enough at the range here in the high country.

Just saw this post.
I have used Varget in three Winchesters and two Talkeetnas and 260 NP's. All were excellent shooters. An average velocity for me was 2600fps with a Fed 215.

Ruger No. 1 375 H&H - this rifle loves the Speer 270, but the Hornady 270 and Accubond 260 are similar with this load. Shot at 100 yds...

Nice group. My Number One shoots real well with RL-15 & 260's, or H4350 and 300's or 270's.

I really need to give Varget more of a try, have a fair bit of it on hand. The 235 gr Speer did fairly well with Varget.

balew,

If I were you, I would just use the Varget/270gr bullet data.
