I found a really nice Model 70 in 6.5 Rem Mag that I might be able to get for a bargain.
No one seems to have ammo in stock and I can't find brass except at auctions at outrageous prices.
It certainly seems to be a capable caliber, with a 140gr bullet @ 2900 fps....is this a hopeless love affair?
No not hopeless. One option is a die from RCBS to make 6.5 Rem from 350 Rem Mag. Neck down and interior ream. I have one also and really like it however I bought 500 rds of brass about 5 yrs ago when I had the rifle built.
You can make the brass from any of the .375 H&H based belted magnum cases. Some are more work than others. Haunt small gun stores and you will probably find a few boxes of ammo, then you have brass.
My hunting buddy out in Burns, OR picked up a Rem 660, or whichever of that model family was chambered in the 6.5, and loves it.
The brass is around, just expensive. I am having one built right now and was able to buy 350 new brass and 100 loaded rounds for a reasonable enough price.
I will check tomorrow and see if I have any left. If I do you will be able to afford it.
I lucked out and got 100 cases with the rifle I got a couple months ago. Haven't seen any around, though.
All I could find is 14-15 rounds of brass. I'll give them to you for $5 shipping. If interested PM an address.
butch, that's a great offer, but the rifle is in an auction, and the auction is more than a month away. I was just doin' recon to make sure I could feed the thing in case I got lucky enough to nab it!
I'll definitely remember you if I get it. Thanks!
I just saw some 6.5 brass listed somewhere the other day for 2.00 per case. $40.00 per box of twenty vintage unprimed brass.
Nothing wrong with the caliber but like has been said brass is extremely hard to get. If it's a M70 then it's probably been re-barreled and being a hard caliber I wouldn't offer much for it.
