I love my compact Rem 660 in 7mm-08. I don't love the narrow, skinny dogleg bolt - how do I best alter or replace it to look like the Model 7 bolt?
I have an XP with the same bolt handle as the 600 that I had a 700 Bolt handle installed on.

I believe PT&G sells bolt handles.
We have a model 660. I feel its an excellent feeling bolt handle that is in the right position for follow ups.
the M600/M660 actions are scooted back in the stock to shorten the over all length of the rifle, so the trigger and bolt handle are moved forward relative to the action to make up for the difference. I'd not swap mine.
My problem is that the bolt is essentially sliced in half, so that the lower half is flat. The flat side lies against the stock, so that it is harder to get your hand under it to work the bolt quickly.
Have a gunsmith heat and bend the bolt knob upward about a 1/4". Then the knob is in the right place relative to the stock but it'll be easier to get ahold of when working the bolt.

Should be a simple quick fix, the handles on 600/660 bolts were in the white so a quick trip to the buffing wheel will get rid of heat colors and you'll be all set.
I like how flat the bolt knob lays. It's unobtrusive, but still easily manipulated.

they are blued bolt handles.
Don't do it. The action is shorter and there is a reason they used the dogleg handle on that action. I replaced a bolt on a 600 with a regular Remington bolt. When I first shot the rifle, the bolt would hit my index finger. I have to use a low grip to avoid hitting my finger.
Must be hell, going thru life unable to figger out how to work a bolt.....
just be glad it don't have a ruger mkII wing safety.... Seems like lottsa guys can't figger them out, either.....
If you are shooting a 600 or 660 with recoil you'll wish you never touched that bolt handle!!!

My brother-in-law replaced mine with a 700 bolt handle on an ultra-light weight 600 350 Magnum with a kevlar stock. He thought he was doing me a favor. Luckily I had a second bolt as the guy that took off the ugly handle threw it away. If you don't want that ugly bolt handle send it to someone who greatly appreciates them! They are hard to come by.
Some gun shop expert told me 600/660 bolt handles were notorious for shearing or cracking at the junction of bolt and handle and that's why the rifle did not sell well. I told him his was full of chit.

First I've ever heard of it.
Mine is a lightweight 25-284 and it has enough recoil to hit my finger if I don't alter my grip.
Thought about changing the handle on my 660 7mm-08, but it was the funky handle that drew me to it in the first place, as my first kill was with my father's 600 Mohawk. Had to have my own dogleg Remington for nostalgic purposes. It's never given me a problem when it is time to work the bolt.

When I worked for a gunsmith many years ago, theonly Remingtons that came in for bolt handles coming off were the 788's. I've owned an M600 nd M660, both in .308 Win. Never had a problem with the handles coming off, even when I loaded a bit too hot.

laugh grin
Maybe its just me, but instead of the .350 RM, I wish Remington would have offered the 600 in .358 Win. The magnum round kicked too harshly. I know this has nothing to do with dogleg bolts, but since I see no problem with the bolt handles I figured the issue was moot.
Not a good pic of my Grandson's 600. It is a 6X47Lapua.
