I wrote to Barnes over a week ago, but they are not answering so perhaps one of you can tell me: what is the difference between the Tac-X bullets and the TSX? The reason I ask is because shelves are quite empty here but the Tac-X is readily available. Are they just TSX bullets in a different box?

they look almost the same the only thing I see is different is the grain weight

The ones I have seen (the 110gr .30 cal, and the 300gr .45 cal) look a lot like the TTSX in the same weight. Just the tip is black, which we all know makes it more badass smirk

I have 62gr and 70gr of each type here. Different box, same bullets.....

Maybe you're thinking of the TAC-TX. The TAC-X is equivalent to the TSX.

I called Ty at Barnes when these first came out and he told me they are the same as the TSX just different packaging.

I spoke to the Barnes technician last week looking for the 110 grain TAC-TX on Midway and finding the 110 grain TTSX. The 110 grain 30 cal TAC-TX with the black tip is designed to expand down to about 1300 FPS (300 BO territory), the 110 grian TTSX is designed to expand down to about 2000 FPS. They are not the same bullet and I don't know where this internet rumor started.

for comparison Remington loads the 110 grain TSX in the 300BO as their so called Hog Hammer bullet, less expansion more penetration.

This "internet rumor" started when they were the same bullet. I was also told they were the same by the folks at Barnes a year or two ago. It looks like Barnes has introduced a new version of that bullet since I talked to Barnes.

As posted above....I talked to the Barnes rep at SCI in Vegas
a few years ago and he said they are the same bullet. They market
the Tac X for tactical loads for police, etc and the triple shock
to hunters. I guess the PD's don't want it to get out that they
are shooting the bad guys in the head with a "triple shock"....lol

That is one bullet with a black tip specifically designed for the .300 BO. The rest of them have blue tips and are designed to penetrate and track straight when fired from higher-velocity rounds.

The only bullet that is different is the BlackTip 110gr 30cal. The rest are the same as their respective TSX/TTSX bullets.
Posted By: jimmyp Re: Tac-X bullets - 10/29/14

sadly everyone knows so much that just is not so.

opinions aside the black tip bullet is different than the blue tip bullet.

Hogs - blue tip or regular TSX from a 2100 fps start
Deer etc - black tip from a 2100 fps start.

OK, thanks guys. I should be able to us them on deer then.

It wouldn't scare me to launch a 110gr Blacktip from a 300 Win Mag into any animal in the country....
Posted By: 2muchgun Re: Tac-X bullets - 10/29/14
OP asked about Tac X and TSX. NOT the Tac TX with black tip which is shorter, expands easier, and is specifically designed for 300 Blackout in AR length magazines.

The first 2, that which the OP inquired, are the same bullet, different box.

The black tipped Tac TX is different.

NONE of these 3 bullets have blue tips. Tipped TSXs and LRXs do...

And all the other TAC-TX bullets... wink
