Is that right? Or should that be $21.84. Because otherwise that is a really good deal.
Good catch! It should have been 21.84, and I just changed it. Thanks.

Bastid! Ha! wink grin

John
I called Eileen yesterday to order the two-book combo, I usually call because my web browser frequently has problems on the site. Besides I get to chat with Eileen!

I really liked the .30-'06 chapter in Gun Gack since you used your NULA M24 as the shooter, and I copied your specifications when I ordered my Ought Six from Melvin ten years ago. wink

IMO, it's a REALLY good deal at $21.84, too. This is a high quality, hard bound book with a dust jacket that's printed on high quality paper with lots of excellent color photographs, and full of great writing. If you like bird hunting and shotguns, do yourself a BIG favor, and get a copy while Mule Deer still has copies available!
Thanks, Bob!

We're hoping to make it to Helena this afternoon, but it looks like another snowstorm is brewing.
I read Born to Hunt and now am starting Life of the Hunt. Both are fun reads!
Glad you're enjoying them!

I really like writing that kind of hunting story, and made a good part of my living at it until about 2000, when the market changed to more gear-oriented articles.

Very few magazines run actual hunting stories anymore, where somebody describes the details of how the world looks and feels and even smells. Instead they're articles about the rifle, load and other gear, and often what the animal scored.

There's nothing wrong with all that, and I obviously like rifles and handloading so can write about those things as well. But telling actual hunting stories is more fun, just as it is for most hunters, and apparently always has been even before humans started turning language into written symbols.
We've gotten a couple of direct orders through PayPal from people who apparently missed the notices about the sale, or forgot it was going on. So they'll be getting a partial refund with their orders....

Along with my father's influence, those types of articles are what got me so interested in the outdoors in my youth.
Finally pulled the trigger (Doh!) on Gun Gack last night. Had a very pleasant chat with Eileen, as my computer or the website (or both) weren't on cordial terms. But, I enjoyed the talk more than I enjoy computer keys. Looking forward to settling in with the book.
Eileen has quite a few regular callers, who obviously prefer talking to her rather than Internetting. One interestind side-effect is we get to keep up with what's happening with hunting in various parts of North America!
tried to go onto the website, got an error.
As noted a few times on this thread, a few Internet connections and/or computers don't mesh well with the site. If the website’s acting weird, you can contact Eileen at 406-521-0273 or [email protected].

John, I've always been impressed with Eileen's honesty. I ordered a book several years ago and inadvertently ordered two. rather than ship two of the same books, she took the time to call me and ask whether I meant to order 2 and corrected the order. Excellent service.
Yep, great lady to talk to and very helpful.

After all, she's put with John all these years... shocked

I got my order in before the deadline.

Even found out it was 30*'s that day, not terribly cold.

DF
Can I get an "Amen!"? grin

I'm in for a couple of hundred "Amens".

Steve
Just ordered my first book from John along with Loony News. Thanks for being who you are.

Mike
Ordered "The Life of the Hunt" and "Born to Hunt" combo since I can't pass up a deal on John's books. Looking forward to reading them.
John I just ordered the BBOGG.

If you wanted to autograph it with something like "To my greatest hero, Bob, the finest rifle shot I ever knew...." that would be fine!

Seriously, if there's a problem with the international postage just give me a yell.

Thanks and all the best.

Eileen will definitely let you know about postage, or any other possible problems. She ships quite a few books to Oz.

Will be happy to sign it however you want, especially with such a straightforward and honest inscription....

We envy your weather this time of year!

Laughing. Well played.
Heheh,

I'd be thrilled with just an autograph!

BTW Mule Deer, while I know that no one likes a skite, its 29 degrees C here at 615pm!

smile

That's a little on the warmish side--but until the past couple of days it hadn't gotten above about -5 Celsius here for a couple of weeks. It hasn't gotten super-cold at night, but even in mid-winter the days are usually above freezing.
On a more general note, this is the last day of the sale!
Is Eileen gonna take orders, 'till the clock strikes midnight??

grin

DF
Probably! But after about 9:00 this evening (about when the second football game should be over) she won't be answering the phone, though she will call back the next day.

A lot of people order off the website--if their computer connection works with it (most do). And you can always send her an e-mail at [email protected].
