Apparently this is the only .22wmr ammo you can find in NC right now. It's made in the Phillipines and costs $18 a box I bought a couple because there is no choice and hasn't been for months. 17hmr and 22lr are on the shelves (somewhat) but 22 mag is a losing proposition for some reason?

If you live near an Academy Sports keep checking their store and you may find some CCI .22mag. I was in a store a few weeks back and picked up two boxes for $11.99/each.

They are getting it sporadically but it is still out there.

Both Marlin rifles as well as the H&K semiauto I owned did not like them in the least. Pie plate at 50 yards would not be a poor description. The Ruger Single Six that I have in 22 mag only is the opposite extreme- a good thing as it gives me a use for that ammo. The three rifles above were the pickiest in regard to ammo I ran across which is a major reason they no longer reside in my safe. My current 22 mag rifle is not as intolerant but it is fussier than I would like.

Rimfires can be very picky as to ammo at times, I would not let a report of poor accuracy determine ammo choice. One may very well find that a given brand/line of rimfire ammo will be the best choice for one gun but not as apt of a choice for the next- even if the same make and model as the previous. Buy a box and give it a try, you might find it to work very well in your gun and will probably do well enough until you find a better option.

I bought 400 rounds of CCI Maxi-Mag HP's at the Binghamton NY Gander Mountain last summer and have seen it there sporadically several times since. If you have a GM near you it might be worth a look.

I read that they are building or have built a US plant for RF first, and then other stuff.

Fiocchi has an American plant and the .223 ammo I bought is first-rate and priced just right. Hope they make .22s here as well.

CCI claims it is building a new rimfire ammo plant. They say that there is a lot of Gov't red tape involved with rimfire plants and that they can't be built near anything else because the priming mixture is so dangerous. They also say it's a lot more involved to train rimfire ammo makers than centerfire. They said rimfire makers are the cremè de la cremè and it's a very costly venture but once finished it will help ease the shortage.

I have yet to find any bad Fiocchi ammo. All that I have tried; 22 Mag, 204 Ruger, 223, 22-250, and 6.5x55, has been excellent.

The .223s I bought came in at $.47 each, delivered to my door. I don't think I can load them any cheaper, using new brass and over-run bullets. Looks like nice brass too.

None of their .22s I've tried have been the pick of the litter in my guns, but did as well or better than the other "losers" in my testing. Someday, I'll give some of their match stuff a go, as I like to have alternatives to my regular stuff.

A friend bought some Armscor 223mrf, and it shoots very well in his Savage rifle.

Haven't used any of their rifle ammo, but I've used their "Golden Pheasant" load in my 16 gauges, works very well. It's an ounce and an eighth of nickel plated 5's.

On the other hand, several years back I ordered a couple cases of their 3 1/2" 12 gauge steel shot loads and it was absolute schit; crimps weren't any good, would leak shot out! Occasionally got a squib that would just make a big pop and toss the shot out twenty or thirty feet. Complained to them, they sent me a case of replacements that were supposed to be all right, but they were just as bad. The only difference was they replaced my (original) purchase of #2's with #1's. I could only figure they thought maybe the bigger shot wouldn't leak out of the bad crimps as much (it did.) Tried to communicate with them several times since then about it but they just ignore me. I guess I have no interest in buying any more of their ammo.
