Public land in the Cleveland Nqational Forest requires "non-lead."

Wishing the 130TSX was tipped, but it is what it is.

Guessing that the 120TTSX is my Hucklberry..?

What say you.?

6.5x55 Swede.

127 LRX is my bullet of choice.

Great option.

Thanks for the response.

127 LRX accurate tough and fairly sleek.

It occurs to me that I've been in the dark about that bullet. What a GREAT option.

Any idea what the actual B.C value of that bullet is..?

Thank you for your responses.

.468
Posted By: 358wsm Re: Best 6.5 Mono for SoCal - 02/25/17

Thanks Sidepass,

I believe that it once was quoated at .510 which was a bit high, and now I see that Barnes is saying .468. I wonder what it's actual flight path is..., probably you are correct, or close.

Brian Litz's range-tested data also lists it at .468 for velocities from 3000-2500 fps.

6.5x55 Swede.

I agree that the 127 LRX may be your best mono bullet for the Swede.

IIRC, it has a lower velocity window than the TTSX, probably a bit softer bullet designed to open at LR and lower speeds.

My 26 Nosler shot the 120 TTSX better than the 127 LRX. At 3,450 fps I prefer the TTSX. Besides being more accurate in my gun, I trust the TTSX over the LRX if I take a closer shot at near full velocity. They say monos don't have a performance ceiling, but it may not be that simple.

I would appreciate opinions on terminal performance, LRX vs. TTSX at high speeds, having not yet killed anything with an LRX.

Thanks JB.

DF,

Have you found the potentially softer LRX to fall at those close shots, and if so how.., pedals shearing off or something.?

I've not killed a single critter with an LRX, just targets at the range. I've read they're softer than the TTSX.

From what I've seen the TTSX do to hogs and WT's at mega speed, I don't want anything softer. BTW, petals sheering off don't bother me. Cutting Edge Raptors are monos designed to do just that. And they kill stuff with authority, are really accurate.

In my 26 Nos, the 120 gr. TTSX is near half MOA, the 127 LRX around MOA at 400 yds.

To the OP, if his gun will shoot the 127 LRX, that may be a good option for non lead bullet in the 6.5x55. It should do well, maybe better than a TTSX at Swede speed.

Speaking of CE bullets, the OP may want to try those. If I was limited to non-lead I'd check them out. CE's would be an option if the OP's rifle didn't like 127 LRX's. They should kill well at moderate speed. CE makes different style bullets, the Raptor sheds petals. Check this out.. https://cuttingedgebullets.com/264-6-5mm-100gr-esp-raptor

The 100 gr. CE Raptor needs 1,500 fps and 8 twist. The Swede could smoke these pretty fast, like 3,200+ fps. They'd be way over the velocity/performance threshold as far as anyone would want to shoot at game.

As always, thank you for responding.

I'd be running an E-tip....

Greg,

I would like to hear more about your choice of the E-tip. I don't know anything about the E-tips, never tried them. What do you like about them vs the other mono's?

Thanks,

David

For deer, don't forget about the 100TTSX. Higher speed, plenty of penetration.
plus 1 for 127 LRX

What ranges and game?

One shot with a 127LRX from a 6.5-06 absolutely floored a 353 bull for me (quartering towards) so I'm thinking they are plenty tough.

I don't see much difference between E-Tips and TTSX's, use them interchangeably, same velocities/trajectories with identical charges, terminal performance about the same.

I'd say 100 grains should be more than enough for a little Pacific Mule deer, try 3 or 4 bullets with a couple of loads and see what your rifle likes best. My solution for the same quarry in a 25-06 will be either the 100 or even 80 grain TTSX this fall if either will shoot in my Christmas present. After seeing what the 150 grain TTSX does to elk and big pigs past 500 yards with 7mm bullets no fear about using an 80 on a 150 lb local buck. I switched from Nosler Ballistic Tips several years ago for elk and the Barnes won't put 3 inside a dime but do shoot 1/2 inch or so with the same POI as the NBT in my 7 RM. They aren't quite as spectacular as the old Ballistic tips on deer but break bones easily even going through at an angle and hitting the off side shoulder.

I have used the Hornady GMX bullets in 7mm & 338. They offer a 120 gr. bullet in 6.5 gives you another option to consider.

Have never shot a GMX. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the TTSX, E-Tip and GMX would be three peas in a pod.

My experience with 120 gr. 6.5 mm E-Tip/TTSX's being essentially the same in perfomance would lead me to believe the GMX would probably fit the pattern.

Try all three, see what the gun says. Don't forget CE monos.

I load the TTSX 120's in my Creedmoor's. They kill deer and damn pigs really well.

358,
I've harvested a pile of deer, elk, and antelope with the 6.5 x 55 and 120 ttsx. Very good results from nearly point plank out to about 400 yards. That's about as far as I'll shoot elk with this combo as expansion and results really seem to fall off past 400 for me.
