Few months ago picked up a Win Classic SS 375 H&H, literally so cheap I couldn't NOT buy it.

Have no real use for it to be perfectly honest, but exited to have it nevertheless.

Have a few scopes looking for a home, one being a VX3 2.5-8x36 with a B&C reticle.

Other is a VX5 2-10x42 with the standard duplex. Could also go on the hunt for the classic 1.5-5 route.

Plans are maybe shoot a hog or two in Texas and I'm hoping to save some pennies and maybe do a water buffalo hunt down the road with it.

Have Leupold DD with a set of 1" low rings in the drawer, if I were to go the VX5 route would 30mm low rings still work?

Go with what you already have. If the rifle turns out to be a keeper, then put some $$ into a preferred scope.

Mine wears the classic 1.5-5x20mm in steel rings. Approaching 900 rounds now without a hiccup.
Like Puddle my Mod70 Classic has a Leupold 1.5-5x. Great scope for the job.

The 375 H&H had some range capability, so I'd go with the 2.5-8.
My 375 started with a Leupold Euro30 1.25-4x. It worked admirably for a number of years. When I solidified that rifle would be the very last I ever part with, I upgraded to a Swarovski Z6i 1-6EE. I couldn't imagine a better combination, save for possibly the Z8i 1-8. The 375 doesn't really NEED the EE.

I had /have a 2-7 on my H&H……thinking it to be the near perfect mate for the ballistics offered by the .375 H&H.

If I were hunting in very dense bush…..I would likely step down to a 1 (or 1.5) - 4 or 5!

When I stepped-up to my AI, and as my hunting involved more open country than close range stuff…..I started with a 2.5-8 eventually moving up to a 3.5-10. However, that little 2.5-8, mounted in QR’s travels with me everywhere I go……zero’d and ready to hunt! memtb

Great scope, I have one on my 500 Jeffery. Don't need more than 5x out to 500 yards. Besides I find I shake less at lower magnifications ...
For what you have on hand the 2-8x36 would be my choice. If staring new a rugged fixed 4x33 would be about perfect.
69, I like a 3-9 or something similar. I found in Africa the higher power to be important to find a hole in the thorns I would be able to shoot through.
Thanks all for the input

I recently mounted a Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9x on my M70 375 H&H for a brown bear hunt next year. I chose the green post reticle. It is mounted but has yet to be taken out for sight in. I am impressed with the scope both optically, size/weight and the crisp feel of the adjustments. I have read nothing bad about the scope but I shall see. It was $600 delivered from Midway a bit ago.

CLassic 1.5-5 route.
Pick one

I too, just recently got a Trijicon 3-9 Accupoint with green duplex reticle for a lightweight 270.

That would work also.
I started with 1.5-5 and hunted with it a lot in Africa. I then switched to a 2.5-8 and I like it much better. YMMV.

My using 375 H&H is M70 stainless with a 22"
barrel. It presently has a 1-6x24. This works for my distances and target sizes. I certainly would not have a problem mounting a 2-10x42'ish type if I want more magnification and light transmission. I have used a variety of power ranges on 375's.

I have one 375 Ruger with a 1.5-8x42 and another with a 1-8x24. These have had 1.1-4x24's and 1.5-6x42's prior. I may go back to a 1.1-4x24 or a 1-6.3x24 on one of them. For me, the 1-5x24 or 1-6x24 seem about ideal. I like the straight tubed scopes. But, the 42mm objective do have a bit of an edge as the darkness creeps in.
My Kimber Talkeetna wears a S&B Zenith 1.5-6x42mm and a 1.1-4x24mm as back-up.
I’ve gone to 1.75-6x32 for the 375s. Enough magnification for the longest ranges I anticipate might present (~250-300 yds) with a 375 (Ruger or H&H) and low magnification & ample FOV for the close in situations. YMMV
I have a VX3 in 1.75x6 on my .375 H&H
I have a NF Nxs 2.5-10 on my 375 and like it very much
