416 Rigbone (top)
Buddy's 400 Whelen
375 H&H
No pics of a couple of 35 Whelens...
Some of you guys prolly have some dandys!
VERY nice rifles, but there isn't a big bore in the mix. IIRC, big bores start at 45 cal. So even my 416 Remmy doesn't make the cut............
Here's a true big bore. My newly acquired .460Wby
Here's my 375 Chatfield-Taylor. Not pretty, but it works well.
I like it Supercub, how long is the barrel?
My new AHR, Inc. 404 Jeffery
CZ 375 H&H
Boomer I like that 460 Weatherby, can you show us the rest of the rifle? Supercub your 375 is awesome too ...
Chuck
Does this count? 444 Marlin.
In progress: 458 WM Whitworth in a Cocobolo stock. Lots of sending to do.
1ASA.......that is some gorgeous wood on the marlin

Hi Chuck,
Here are some more pics.
I've posted this a couple of times lately. It started life as a 7mmRM ADL. It has changed a lot!
Remington 700 375HH
CDL Magnum stock
23" CM Douglas Remington mag contour
Gre-tan firing pin/shroud
Leupold QR rings/bases (open sights are in its future)
Leupold Vari-XIII 1.75-6E
8lb 12oz as pictured plus 3 rounds
I'm still working up loads for it...
RH
Well, since medium bores are included, here is my 9.3x62
Heres my 416 rem, it is still in the works, everytime I think I'm ready to send it down to charlie to be finished, I come up with something else. Stupid thing is dead on at 200 yards though.
And of course my 35 whelen I bought off here a couple of months ago. I did add a 3 pos win style safety on it.
I am also getting back another 1917 action this week that I sent to a smith in lower 48. Not sure what its gonna be yet, but whatever it is its gonna have a .458" or a .50+ " hole in the bbl.
Time will tell.
Here is my CZ550 in .416 Rigby
And here is a A-Square Hannibal that I used to own in .500 A-Square
I like it Supercub, how long is the barrel?
22" bbl, 8.5 lb as shown. Seems to have a fast bbl. 2700fps [with 270s] is easy to acheive.
Let's see some pictures
how about 35 caliber and up...
Never been real big on big bores but here are the two I've owned.
1909 Argentine M98 in 9.3X62 (still own)
Whitworth .375 H&H (sold)

Beautiful wood on those rifles Terry.
Thanks. I really enjoy the 9.3X62. The 375 H&H was just too much of a good thing :^)

There are some nice looking rifles!
Browning Safari .375H&H (PF model, & salt wood
)
It feeds like crazy, shoots lights out, and almost no rust, got lucky!
On the way is a Ruger Mk II in .404 Jeffery, should be ready in September!
35 Whelen, VZ-24. Boyds JRS stock. Alumahyde II coating on metal.
458 Win Mag, Savage 110, 20" Shaw Barrel. SSS Recoil lug.
GOTTA LOVE THOSE BIG BORES,THEY GET IT DONE, NICE!

My Custom -Left hand- Mauser 35 whelen.
My new AHR, Inc. 404 Jeffery
Outstanding rifle you got there.
Nothing fancy, but both see a lot of use. Will be using both rifles on and off for spring bear. Come on spring! And hopefully Kodiak in the near future.
375 Ruger and 375 H&H.
My two 35 Whelen's, no pics of my 350 RM (Ruger Mark II).The classic has a 2-7 VXI on it now.
My Dakota M76 Safari in .375 H&H:
And a Sako Safari Grade in .375 H&H:
The same Sako Safari Grade and a Remington M700 Alaskan Wilderness Rifle, also in .375 H&H.
I obviously have a THING for .375 H&H!
Some nice work here!
Timberline, that pic of your Dakota on the hide with the Kudu horn & ammo pouch is outstanding!!!!!!!!!
Heres a couple of mine.
LH SS MRC .358 Norma Mag, Pac-Nor bbl. @25", Accurate Innovations Stock. (Excuse the mess)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
LH SS MRC 375 H+H (formerly a 416 Rem Mag), #5 Pac-Nor @ 21", Bansner Hi-tech stock, NECG hardware, It now has a Vari XIII 1.75-6 on it in Leuppy QR rings)
Heres the start of my next bigbore.
Winchester 1917 action (slightly tweaked). I just agreed to buy a 458bbl (douglas). its gonna be a 20", opensighted bear buster/hiking/camp rifle.
Here is my lastes, just picked this up from a member here. Herters FN action, chambered in .375/284. It has a 18" barrel, and a trigger I am not real wild about. Have not worked up any loads yet, but should shortly.
Here's my pre-64 Winchester 70 in 375 H&H
It has a Kollmorgen 4X32 scope on a Griffin & Howe quick release mount, when you slide it out you can put in the Lyman peep. This is one of my favourite rifles.
Joel/AK
I likey the 1917 action. I have a Model 30 Express and want to do something with it. What have you done in as far as tweeking yuor action? Thanks for the info and by the way what stock option are you looking at on this build?
From factory, I had the dogleg bolt handle replaced. Also the trigger is a jaeggar (sp). when I got the action it was real clean, but holes drilled all over it. Had them filled in. Also with the straightened bottom metal, somebody cut the mag box in half instead of getting the right action screws.
replaced the magbox. also at some time, the ejector spring broke so a tab was welded on to force the ejector out. I replaced the ejector. Then I had the smith add the WWG peep sight. I had a sight that was made for a rem 870 and it fit the contour.
For the stock, I have a cheap piece of walnut to get me through til I can find a decent piece of wood.
Heres the action in the temp stock.
My Custom -Left hand- Mauser 35 whelen.
I rate that as one of the finest looking rifles I've seen. Nice satin finish on the metal and a nice shaped stock, straight grain wood with mineral streaks, suberb finish and checkering. A good scope and mounts to match. 35 Whelen ..... you can walk the earth and hunt all over the world ..... there would be very few instances that a man would be under gunned with a 35 Whelen.
Ruger #1 45-70 Govt. (The stripe on the forearm is just sunlight through a chair, not a flaw in the wood).
Sactoller, I am diggen that shorty....
Hmmmmm...
boomer68, what stock is that? I like the look, how does it handle recoil?
Later...
My favorite and only custom rifle not built by me. .375 H&H model 70.
Doc
Here's my home made 50 Cal flintlock.
Cleaning out the safe,
Merkel 470, AHR 404 Jeffery, AHR 416 Rigby, Ruger RSM 375 H&H, HS Precision 375 H&H, Sabi Rifles 8X68S (a friends)
While I have a Marlin GG in .45-70 and a Blaser R93 Safari in .375, this is my "big" bore, a Roger Ferrell .458 Lott on an MRC action and a Micky Supreme.

Sactoller, I am diggen that shorty....
Hmmmmm...
Thanks, just picked it up from a member here. Hope to have some loads worked up in a couple of weeks. It should be great for the hogs!
My largest big bore is this Ugartechea 12 gauge slug gun.
Then the 416 Rigby,
and the 9.3x62's,
and though a bit under .35, my recently acquired Walther 8x57 Mauser.
Tony,
I really like that 8x57!!!!!
If you guys wanna count these, here are 2. A Winchester 45-90 and an old Sharps 45-110
Evil, I like the sharps, I would give my enemies right eye for one but just cant justify it.
With one of those I might have to put in for a buffalo hunt to use it on.
Tony,
I really like that 8x57!!!!!
Thanks. I snagged it a couple of weeks ago. It is in near new condition.
And it is a fine match to its little brother, the 7x57 on the left.

Do they still make the 12 bore slug gun? I'd like to find one.
I do not believe that they do. I have only seen one other like it a few months after I bought this one.
Thanks for the info. I bet that big 12 bore is a hoot to shoot.
here's my 1914 vintage Watson Bros. .450/.400
Depends on what you consider a BIG bore. I think it starts at about 25 MM.
Goodnews...........I give in, I'll take that Lott off your hands, just glad to help out!
Well, it's a very well made rifle and I like it but I'd sell it if you're serious.

You would be surprised - recoil isn't bad at all even without the muzzle brake. Properly fitted stock and good recoil pad make all the difference in the world. Those guys at AHR in Corvallis know just how to do it right.
Of course, once those 900gr pills start leaving the barrel at something around 2,400fps ...
Here's what I have pics of handy, from top to bottom; all Ruger #1's:
#1AH in .25-06 (I know, not in the category, but it was already in the pic.)
#1 Tropical in .375 H&H
#1 Tropical in .416 Rigby
#1S in .45-70 (definitely the hardest kicker in the bunch)
Does this count? 444 Marlin.
nice wood dude!

Good thing there is a picture of a rifle there..
Apparently sportsfan7292 can tell a lot about a man from his rifle.
Actually, when I first received the rifle and opened the box. I did have wood.
Hi,
New to the forum.
Here is a picture of my 378 Weatherby Magnum
Skeezix,
Did I understand you correctly that the 375 H&H doesn't kick as bad as the 45-70?! I'm assuming that's with MAX No.1 45-70 loads? I see the 45-70 is smaller, maybe that's part of it? Which one do you feel hits harder at the game end?
#1S in .45-70 (definitely the hardest kicker in the bunch)
And least effective! I bet G. Custer would agree with me.
"Lets See Those Big Bores"
Here are a few of mine, front to rear- .416Rigby, .458Lott, and .505Gibbs.
My friend's Marlin shooting 400g bullets at 1800 fps hurts. My 375 H&H shooting 350g bullets at 2300 fps is a pussycat. I think the narrowness of the stock at the butt, and the lightweight of the marlin makes the difference.

Gorgeous rifle phoenixdawg. What make and caliber?
Chuck
nice scope phoenix, wanna sell it back?
Thats a really nice looking Montana actioned rifle Phoenixdawg. Gotta have some details, did MRC do the barrel and chambering? Also caliber and capicity of the mag? I'm interested in MRC actions as I've one on order. Rodney.
I know it's not a rifle but to me it is still a good Big bore
My humble CZ 375 H&H (be back home soon from the gunsmith as a 500 Jeffery) and a Springfield V-16 longslide in 45 Super

My 1895 XLR in 45/70 DRC lever, Brockman sites and Levergun Leatherworks leather!

All I can say is WOW!!!!
My new Synthetic Stainless Sako Model 85.
Six pounds and 15 ounces (naked) of pure accuracy! Great recoil attenuation with the patented stock and pad, ultra-slick smooth-feeding action, a fantastic trigger, a wonderful clip design that allows another four rounds (after you've shot 5) - in just seconds. And, unlike every other clip - there is no risk of it falling out. It's patented too!
This is a six shot group with my called flier (due to my excitment at owning my first "big-bore" - and having it shoot like this) - with the cheapest factory ammo I could find - during my very first session with the rifle.
Here are a few views of the rifle.

Beautiful? To me it is. It is a no-nonsense, totally built-for-purpose, lightweight, rugged, slick functioning, great-shooting bigbore. I'm sure glad I bought it!
Very nice Brian, great groups too!
That rifle is a beauty, Brian!
I wonder if they sell that one in Idaho??
BTW, I like the scope as well-do you have a TDS reticle on it by chance?
This is my .404 Jeff,A-type Mauser, made in 1924 for the Charles Heyer Co,Niroba. This was sent to G&H in the early '60's for restoration and their side mount.I guess I'm third owner, but I won't know the forth....rifle
