Just ordered myself a CZ550 and am now looking for reloading dies. I currently use a Redding Boss for rifle and also a Dillon 550. Will I need to buy another press?

Redding Boss should handle it fine. My RCBS Super Rockhucker ll will.

Yeah, now get ya a bunch of 600 gr Woodleighs, both softs and solids, 140 grs of H-4831 under either will put you in a very good spot.
Paul Harvey's "rest of the story".

You guys may not know the full saga on Gunner's .505 Gibbs. It started life as a .416 Rigby. He shot it so much, he wore out the barrel, then had it rebored and chambered for .505 Gibbs.

Now, how many .416's, etc,. have any of you heard of being shot out?

Not sure how long his .505 tube will last and what his rebore options will be.

I am hoping to have on hand at the next piggie shoot, one of Hubel458's custom 585 Hubel Express rifles. Will bring enough ammo for anyone who wishes to give it a try.

That said, I am not so sure that I want to give it a try!
Now, Mark.

If you bring it, you gotta shoot it.

The recoil "Hosses" will be calling you a Wuss...

Learned some of these terms from my kids...

So, since the RCBS dies are larger than the standard 7/8-14, and I do not own a RC or Ammo Master, looks like I need a new press?

This is my current press....

Get the Big Boss II. Spent primers fall thru ram into a plastic tube.

A cheaper option is to get a used RCBS Rockchucker on EBay. RCBS has great CS and will fix whatever isn't right.

I did not know that the dies were larger in diameter before I answered. I was thinking about length.

What are the 505 Gibbs die dimensions and threads?

Maybe one of the presses designed to load 50BMG is needed? New uncharted territory for many of us.

Makes me wonder what size the dies are going to be for my 585 Hubel Express....
Mark,

When you remove the 7/8"-14 bushing from a Big Boss or Rockchucker, the threads are 1 1/4"-12. I think they are made that way to facilitate machining the oversized ram.

The .505 Gibbs dies need a 1"-14 thread. RCBS offers a 1 1/4"-12 to 1"-14 adapter to accommodate these big bodied dies.

Hang onto your jock when you open this link...

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/88...ead-with-1-1-4-12-thread-adapter-bushing

BTW, that die set is listed as discontinued. You may need to check with Gunner on .505 Gibbs dies.

Better price.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/63...5-gibbs-1-14-thread?cm_vc=ProductFinding

Could be why the other set was discontinued.

Would still need to ask about the adapter.

Length with a Big Boss or Rockchucker should be OK.

The adapter is just a ring that is threaded to go into the holt once you take out the original bushing. It is threaded on the inside for the bigger die sets. I used to have one to load the 600 OK with...shouldn't be more that a few dollars.
Yeah, it's just another bushing like the 7/8"-14.

Dirtfarmer,

I am not loading for 505 Gibbs, I am working a deal for a 585 Hubel Express (essentially a solid brass 12ga shotgun shell necked down to .585) with dies and formed, properly headstamped new brass. But, I am guessing that the 585 dies will be of the larger diameter as well so this thread has been potentially helpful to me.

Hey Boomer, you can call CH4D and get a set of dies, shellholder and correct die bushing, good stuff at a very fair price.

Considering that the lovely .577 made my teeth hurt with one shot, I think I'll pass on the .505...

I do, however, have some 500 Woodleighs for the .475 Turnbull blush grin

Sherri will likely not be with me on the 2015 Hog hunt and big bore shoot so I will be able to socialize and just hang out some more with ya'll. Shooting big bores and all that. I kinda liked shooting my pigs with my 416 Rigby then 10mm pistol. If I do the deal I am working on, maybe in 2015 we will see if a 585 Hubel Express will get the job done. That round is, essentially, an all brass 12 ga hull tapered down to .585. Looks like a really big 40/65 or 38/55 tapered straight case.

laugh, Tex, You sure it was the 577 and not the 8 Bore, had it [577] loaded down a bit for green comfort. laugh

IIRC the 585 HE runs 750 gr bullets to 2550 fps? grin

Looks like the 585 Hubel Express is a rechamber/rebore option should YOU or i shoot out the Gibbs barrel. shocked grin

I traded my .404J after shoulder surgery, leaving a SS M-70 Classic .375 H&H as my "big" gun. So, I'm not even close to being in your league... grin

With another rebore, that .505G barrel is going to be getting pretty thin... shocked

And thin mean light weight, which means bad azz kicker... mad

Yo kinda gun, for sure... cool
