I just received a call from a hunting body. Seems that he just purchased a Browning s/s rifle in 470 Nitro Express. I diden't know that Browning ever built a s/s rifle but on the barrell it's marked Browning Custom Shop. Would this be built on a BSS frame?? And what would the value be on a rig like this, I'm thinking that he stole it at $1500!!!!!! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I do recall Searcy made some sxs rifles on B.C. Miroku Anson & Deeley actions the so called Browning Side by Side shotguns (BSS). I did see some smaller bore O/U rifles made by Olin Kodensha company. One I seen was .270/,270. There are some unique guns out there that is for sure. If the gun is well regulated then you "stole it".
Hell,

for that money if it shoots he stole it.

If it's marked .470 NE on the barrels with the Browning Custom Shop I doubt it's a Searcy.
Nick Makinson from Ontario builds double rifles on browning sxs actions, wonder if it was one of his?
I will be seeing this rifle on the week end so maybe I will find more clues.
If it says Browning Custom Shop, that's a pretty good clue where it was built.

Browning in Belgium has built SxS rifles in African calibers. They are sidelocks, and re-sell in the $40,000 range....I doubt it's one of them :-)
Before I'd pay $40k for a Browning SxS rifle I would see what Searcy has to offer!
