What do you feel are the most robust front sights out there? Fool prof..

I am looking at NECGs site, and particularly Masterpiece Banded ramp or Universal Banded ramp.

If there are other makers, please say so..

I've found NECG and XS plenty stout for hunting and working rifles.

Same goes for Jim Wisner's goods.

How should the bead be attached..

I have seen some with a screw, and others with a push button.


And, what is bead is preferd when used with a peep sight? A bead? A square (Sourdough)?

Have used both over the years and on game rifles and prefer a bead, just slap it over the desired point of impact and squeeze. A flat topped post, or sourdough, gives a more precise aim point but is much slower for me just because as an old high power shooter, I'll use it as such. I am in the process of sighting my dad's old 721 .270 w/a receiver sight and a 1/16 gold bead and am quite happy with it. What you need to do is get the proper height bead and flat top and shoot both, its fairly inexpensive as well also now having a backup, and see which one is for you. Just make sure on a larger bore rifle that the bead is not too small. We generally have snow here in the game seasons so I use the gold (brass) bead but do really like the Ivory against any backround other than snow. The Ivory or silver shows up much better in low light than the brass if you have darker or neutral backround color conditions- Muddy

I like this one, an NECG ramp, windowed hood with fiberoptic bead. The band is probably stronger than the ramp. The sight slides into a slot in the ramp and is blocked by a spring loaded plunger. The hood slides into a groove from the rear and is secured by backing out an Allen screw. If you look closely, you can see the Allen screw.

I can see the fiberoptic bead very well. It works for me with a peep or open rear sight. Years ago I preferred the Sourdough, but with the passing of time, I can see the fiberoptic bead better.

Dirtfarmer - what is your NECG front sight mounted on - what model rifle? Agree w/ you about older eyes ability to see them.
