What loads have you guys had good luck with using the TSX 270 bullet in 375 h&h? I have reloader 15 and the Barnes book shows 77 grains Max Load. Also have w760 and reloader 17. Not looking to be unsafe but want a boomer load in my 24" barrel Winchester 70. Going to be working towards 2800 FPS.

74.0gr of RL-15 clocks right at 2,700 and has shot into less than an inch at 100 yds in every rifle I've used it in, 4 of mine and two that belong to a buddy. I wouldn't worry about trying to get more velocity, I've killed cape buffalo, moose, and a bunch of lesser critters with this load and it kills like lightning.

This. I cannot see safely getting to Barnes' maximum.

So if I was going to do load workup, think the following would be a good start...(all 3 round groups)

72.5
73.0
73.3
73.6
74.0

And a 75.0 - just to see if its safe.

Yeah, that should be fine. I think around 73.0 to 74.0 grains you'll get some tiny groups. Anything more than around 2,700 with a 270gr bullet in a .375 H&H is pushing it pressure wise especially if you may be using it in hot temps. I agree with Ed above that the Barnes max load may be too hot.

I know in mine, 74 is max or close enough!

270 TSX, Winchester brass, Federal Regular Large Rifle Primers and 74 grains Reloader 15 averaged 2690fps, IIRC.

And 270 Hornady SPs shoot to the same POA with the same load for fun or things that don't require TSXs.

74gr RL-15
F-210 primers
WW case
2700 fps sub MOA
Crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp Die.

Yep, no real need to go any higher based on the stuff I have killed or seen killed with the load.

Wish I could find some Win 375 H&H brass

About the only brass I can find anymore is Hornady - not the best, but not that bad either.

Anyone ever use PRVI Partisan brass? I found a supply of that but don't have any experience with it.

Nice group Jorge!

Gotta love the ol' .375 H&H...

I have two rifles in that caliber, a Model 70 and a Weatherby. Yes, I said a Weatherby. Both rifles shoot practically any bullet sub MOA. I think the caliber is magical! smile

Yes - somehow - despite no logical reason for it - this mule deer and bear hunter has obtained not one, but two .375's as well. And those things are so doggone rewarding!

By luck I managed to latch onto a Number One that belonged at one time to "Mule Deer" - and have shot three bears with it now.

Then I grabbed a really nice Model 70, very well executed, by Michael Scherz - oh my goodness - what a rifle...

Now I've never been to Africa, and have only been to Alaska to fly fish the silver salmon run & backpack... So I don't "need" a .375 at all.. but there they are... And they're among my absolute favorite rifles. Accurate and powerful and classy.

I like all that.

Not in .375 but I have used it in 9.3x62, I had no complaints though Winchester is my favorite. If it was all I could get I wouldn't hesitate using it.

Is crimping 375 loads necessary? Does it affect pressures? Help with accuracy? I just ordered a lee crimp die " just in case"
Posted By: Squirrelnut Re: H&H 270GR. TSX Loads - 01/23/16
No, crimping is not necessary but doesn't hurt anything. I crimp 300 gr bullets but never bothered crimping the 270 gr TSXs. I wouldn't spend money on a crimp die, if you want a crimp just set your seating die to crimp.
