Good day Gentlemen,
I am trying to find a replacement front post for my Merkel 500N.E. The rifle fits me perfectly, but shoots too low.

I need to look for a taller post. How tall, I am yet to find out once the gunsmith does the calculations, but need to find a place to order from.

Does anyone have an idea where I would be able to find such a part?

Best Regards,
Marius Goosen
Do you mean shoots too high? A taller front sight will lower the point of impact.
Correct. Once you get the geometry figured out, New England Custom Guns (they have a website) will be your best bet, or Champlin Firearms out of Enid Oklahoma (they also have a website)

Absolutely. My mistake. Should be a shorter post.

Thanks Jorge. I did see the New England Custom Guns website. I will look into them.
Are shorter replacement front sights not available from Merkel?

I have not seen anything from them. Waiting on an email reply. You would think that they would have something like this.
Wouldn't you just file the post down, checking as you go, until the sight reaches the POI? Can't do that with the beads on newer Merkels, but the post is easy to reduce in height.
I have used both methods for my German guns, filed the front sight lower to get higher point of impact on one, and ordered a higher replacement sight from NECG to get a lower point of impact for another.
Merkel, Heym, and Krieghoff all use the same style of front sight, but may require minor fitting if you are buying a replacement. NECG sights are actually made by Recknagel in Germany. If you order a Recknagel catalogue, they will show you a mind-boggling array of sights and scope mount options.
UPDATE: I ended up having a gunsmith engineer a front post for my rifle. It is now regulated to 25yds with my ammunition. I shoot a 570gr Peregrine solid, and 570 Woodleigh softs to pretty much the same POI.
Thanks for your input gentleman. Appreciate the help.
